Got a message from Pay Pal

First Post
Checked my mail today and there was a mail from Paypal with an program attached to the mail called " InfoUpdate.exe". I found this very suspicious. Anyone else that got this mail or knows anything about this program?
The mail says that if I not renew my subscription in 5 buisnessdays my account will be suspended. I know that Morrus had some problems with PayPal,and I need some advice how I should proceed in this case. If I just ignore it, will there be some other consequences other than suspending my account? After the problems Morrus had with PayPal I´m a bit nervous about my PayPal account.
Glad for any comments.

DON"T OPEN IT!

Paypal would never send a file attachment with an email from them. Never.
If its something that Paypal needs they would post it in your account.

Contact Paypal Customer Service through their website before you mess with an EXE file, IMO.

I am not a lawyer. I get used to saying that round here... :D

TechTV's The Screensavers reported on this virus Friday. I'm not really sure what they said tho. I'm on a Mac so I've never had to worry about viruses.

Here's a link to their website: The Screensavers

According to the notes for Friday's show, here's a link to a story about the virus: PayPal scamming worm (Direct link didn't work, look for link on their page...)

Good Luck!

Thanx for all the answers!

Just as an aside, you never, ever have to 'renew' anything in PayPal. They don't have any of your actual info on file (except the passwords and such I'd bet).

I've had a few spams asking me to fill out forms with my credit card number from a fake paypal address. PayPal will never ask for such since they don't actually have your CC# on any file, and don't require updates (My account lingered for over a year and a half with nothing in it, and I was recently able to use it).

" InfoUpdate.exe". I found this very suspicious.

Good boy!

As one overworked network admin to anyone who'll listen.

DONT CLICK THE HAPPY.EXE!
EVER!

Even if its from a friend. Least of all, Microsoft is not your friend and neither is Paypal, friends dont send other friends .exe's via email.

I virtually guarantee that that email was NOT from PayPal, nor did it use a PayPAl address.
The majority of people look at the email to find out who it's from, not the email headers.
Look at the ACTUAL address that your system received the email from, and it won't be from PayPal.

Similar scams say they come from Ebay, asking you to input your information for account "confirmation", but they are never from Ebay.
I'm surprised that every knowledgable computer user isn't already aware of these scams...
