Got D&D Insider; Don't need books

Well 5 players is the rule but sicne the group is 1 GM + 5 players we are one update short.

I can't really see any reason why the DM would need access to the Character Builder if all his players have it.

I want since it is the one place to check magic items by type and level. The compendium does a lousy job on that regard and we rotate GMing.

The only books that DDI has really "killed" for me are the power books (Divine Power, Primal Power, etc.). They feel rather useless to me now. Other than that, I still enjoy purchasing the rest of the books.

Hm, I'm starting to think I should give DDI a try the next time they offer it at a discounted price (missed the last one, obviously, but I'm in no particular hurry).

Even though it's technically not the best deal price-wise, I've found I'm more comfortable with paying $23 every 3 months vs. paying it all up-front. That just seems like chump change to me compared to what I'm getting out of it. You might want to go that route if you're a little reluctant to drop the whole wad all at once.

I actually discovered that it wasn't a discount/sale at all, they just increased the price and offered people to buy 1 year for the old price. So I guess I'm humped in that regard.

At this point I'm more partial to subscribing for a month whenever I need updates and not otherwise, though. Naturally that will depend on whether the Monster Builder is as good as I think it is, but the Compendium would have to be pretty damn awesome to be worth a continuous subscription, in my eyes (YMMV, of course).

That's another excellent piece of info I was blissfully unaware of. Sadly, my group's need for PHBs is well taken care of already, but that would surely be of great benefit to 4e latecomers.
