Granted Powers in non-deity places

Except that, in many cases, clerics are required to have deities. It is a fairly common house rule, in addition to being the RAW for the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting and, similarly, for the Eberron Campaign Setting (where non-deity clerics draw their power from the Ring of Siberys).

Not true in Eberron (see page 35 of the Setting book "You may also decide that character has no deity but channels from the Spiritual Remnants of the Dragon Above."

In Races of Eberron it also talks about the special aspects of Warforged and Kalashtar when it comes to religion and divinity.

It is true in FR.

d20 Ravenloft – pg 50 talks about how clerics from other worlds still receive their deity’s favor. Since that was the example given and it has a game mechanic in place – I’d use it. They basically still receive all benefits but feel deserted and often times have crisis of faith to deal with.

Since this wasn’t a house-rules question – I try to default to the non-house rules issues. It was also not specified it was FR so I didn’t have the setting specific information to use.

So ... what part of "similarly, for the Eberron Campaign Setting (where non-deity clerics draw their power from the Ring of Siberys)." doesn't that apply to?

If you mystically cut a non-deity Eberron cleric off from the ring of Siberys (the remnants of the Dragon Above), you've cut him off in the same way as cutting a normal deity cleric off from his or her deity.

Thank you irdeggman!!

That is exactly what I was looking for! I would still get spells and domain granted powers, although I wouldn't "hear back" from my deity.

Sorry to barge back in the conversation. This is a situation I can bring to my DM and see if he relents.

My DM has a story/plot reason to remove clerics (I think), as his own PC (a fighter/cleric) is being removed for this part of the campaign. My idea of gaining a level of cleric just before we cross over to...wherever...has put a wrench in his plans, I believe.

If the above quoted argument doesn't persuade him, I think I will just take a level of rogue and delay the cleric idea until the next level advancement.

Thank you and now back to your regularly scheduled deity vs non-deity clerical debate :D

??? Check out Races of Eberron and how Warforged and Kalashtar clerics work. Not the same thing. My point still stands. Later published higher order of priority on same subject.
