Grapple?

When you successfully pin an opponenent does that deal unarmed damage?

Or does it deal no damage and just pin the opponent?

Thanks

shilsen is correct, which makes one wonder what the Complete Warrior authors were smoking when they created the Earth's Embrace feat which inflicts an extra 1d12 damage while maintaining a pin.

"Extra" on top of what? Nothing?

Feh.

That's exactly the feat that prompted this post...

hmmm....

I'm thinking I'm gonna rule if they subsequently damage a pinned opponenet using grapple attemts they get the extra 1d12 damage.

Starting a pin doesn't do damage.

Once you've pinned a person in a given round, if you have iterative attacks, you can then do damage to them as normal with your grapple checks.

So if you normally do 1d3 + Strength unarmed damage in a grapple, someone with the feat would do 1d3 + Strength + 1d12 when the opponent is pinned.

So is that 1d12 damage lethal or nonlethal, or does it depend on which type of damage you inflict with Damage Your Opponent? Does it add extra damage if you Use Opponent’s Weapon? If you have BAB +11 can you use it twice per round?

Feh. Just choose another feat. This on stinks on ice.

Besides, if you have the guy pinned, he's toast anyway. Why waste a feat on it?

Without the actual text of the feat in front of me, I can't say exactly, but my gut instinct is "Whatever type of damage you inflict with Damage Your Opponent."

Without the actual text of the feat in front of me, I can't say exactly, but my gut instinct is "only when using the Damage Your Opponent Option."

Absolutely. Guess what? If you've got BAB +16, you can use it *three* times per round! Woohoo!

This I don't understand.

The point of grappling, usually, is to trade all of your actions for all of one opponent's. In other words, you remove yourself from the battle but remove him, as well.

Normally, the guy you're pinning is only toast if you've got someone else right next to you, poking him.

This is not a given.

This feat gives people other than monks the ability to do significant damage in a grapple. How is that a bad thing?

grapple = 1d4 subdual +str in damage

when you throw a guy around slamming into furniture concrete etc then its 1/2 hit points 1/2 subdual damage this is our house rule. Choke hold or limb submission can cause straight hit pionts and brake bones.
