Grease spell and grappling

Situation: big nasty monster grapples with low HP rogue. Wizard swears loudly and casts Grease on the rogue. What happens? Does the monster have to immediately make a reflex save to hold the grapple?

That's reasonable. It would also be reasonable to give the rogue a hefty bonus to his Escape Artist check to squirem out of the grapple.

Nothing happens - the rogue isn't a valid target for the spell. Grease is targeted on an object or a 10x10 surface, and the rogue is neither.

Given the creativity of the proposed use, however, I'd personally let the wizard make a Spot check to determine the section of the rogue's armor (or boot, or whatever) where the monster has the best grip, then target that object with grease to give the rogue a bonus to his next Escape Artist check.

what if the rogue was wearing a robe and the target was the robe? essentially you would have a greased rogue (who might have trouble keeping their clothing on).

Interesting though - if cast on an attended object and the reflex save is not made to avoid the effect then the creature immediately drops the item... I guess that's an interesting way to force people to get naked .

Personally I would rule that the rogue got to keep their clothing on, and that the person grappleing the rogue would need to make a reflex save or drop the rogue. The rules don't offer anything to really back this up though from what I can see.

For pure rules - if cast on someone's clothing they need to drop the clothing immediately.

Other interesting uses - a grease on manicles, choosing to give up the save = you must drop the manicles.

Kinda crazy.

EDIT: just to make clear "...while objects wielding or employed by..." is the wording on the kind of objects are automatically dropped. is there an in game defination for what is "wielded" or "employed"?

I don't weild my shirt or sock, I wear them. If they were in my hand, I'd give it to you, but on my body, grease would just make them messy, slimy, and, well, greasy.

Most shirts will stay on when slimy, even if you're turned upside down and shaken. The same with pants, especially with a belt employed.

I agree that the Rogue would get a bonus to EA, but in the case of dropping objects, it must be in hand to be consitered wielded. Otherwise grease is just a freaky-weird spell.
