Greater Magic Weapon and Magic Weapons... right.

Let's say that a fighter has a +1 frost/flaming/shocking/holy long sword, and a 13th level cleric casts a Greater Magic Weapon on his sword... does it become a +3 frost/flaming/shocking/holy long sword ?

TIA

Also... what about the Mage Bane enchantment from Complete Arcane ?

Against arcanists, the weapon gains another +2. What is the interaction of such a weapon with Greater Magic Weapon ?

Yes. Yes, it does.

EDIT:

To respond to your second post, it depends on how the property reads. If it's like, say, the Bane enhancement, then it would act like whatever Greater Magic Weapon has provided +2.

It's added to it.

Yep: "effective enhancement level is 2 better than normal"

yeah they all stack.
but the magebane is really too powerful for +1 value in a higher lvl game. It seems closer in value to Holy.
Considering it increases the enhancement bonus, I'd say it might even be better than holy.

It's certainly far, far, far more powerful than a regular bane enchantment, which is +1. I'd suggest making it at least +2, or just removing it from the game.

If you dropped the bit about working against monsters with arcane SLAs it would probably be relatively balanced. How balanced, of course, depends on your campaign world... just as bane weapons would dominate if you only fought 1 type of enemy, magebanes will dominate if you only fight arcane casters (+ the SLA monsters, which is like most of them, which is why you should probably get rid of it).

Of course to be fair, there should probably be warriorbanes, priestbanes and sneakbanes ;)

Thanks guys, I asked those questions in the middle of a game session, and your quick answers came in really handy and I could resume the game properly.

As for magebane being as good as holy... I dunno. It's really campaign dependant. One PC has a Holy weapon, the other a mage bane. The holy weapon's extra damage comes into play much more often (at least twice as much) as the mage bane IMC. And, the Mage Bane doesn't help in any way to bypass any type of DR; holy is one of the most common types of DR.

We're comfortable with leaving the Mage Bane at +1.

Now, if you combine the two, you got yourself one mega fiend slayer.

Like I said: depends on the campaign.
