I had that same attitude, then I read some back issues. Now I'll be damned if Kyle isn't starting to grow on me. I still have major issues with how he got the ring, but I like the "Stranger in a Strange Land" approach they took with Kyle. He knows (knew?) next to nothing about being a GL and had to sink or swim in the role. Made for some pretty cool storylines.

The best Kyle moment as a GL came during a JLA saga where they meet the (pastry-white) Sandman.
Sandman: "You'll be greater than your predecessor. You have something he didn't."
Kyle: "What?"
Sandman: "Fear."
It has always been established that in order to become a GL, a candidate couldn't have the ability to be afraid. Utterly fearlessness is a prereq.

Y'know, there are times when I enjoy reading comic books, and then there are moments like this when I just want to stop reading them altogether. Bringing back a character from the dead should be used vary sparingly, yet it's been used so much that it's a cliche of comics. It lessens any sort of impact or sense of loss/sacrifice made in a story.
Next thing you know, Barry Allen will be back. Heck, why not dig up all of the old big names of glory-days-past & have them running around again?

Seriously, though it does sound a bit neat, I really think this is a bad move. I thought it was a bad move when Green Goblin was brought back; I thought it was a bad move when Magneto was killed off (multiple times); and, unfortunately, I can only foresee more bad moves in the future: I'm sure Colossus is going to pop up back again after a change of the guard or 2 at Marvel.
Ah well--just have to wait & see what happens after a while.

Because when Judd Winick first started writing comics he was nowhere near ready for primetime and actually stole the plot from the M.A.S.H. finale. I bashed him for months for that one (and look, I just did again)
In his defense, he'd actually become a decent comics writer before I was forced to go cold-turkey from comics for financial reasons.

The thing is, when Barry Allen was killed and Wally West took up the mantle of the Flash, it felt natural. Barry died saving the universe singlehandedly (for a while) in the largest epic comics have ever known. And when his heir apparent (for many years) took up the role, it was to honor the fallen hero. After dealing with feelings of unworthiness, Wally eventually became a better Flash than his uncle and, as the Titans Secret Files said, "the only sidekick to ever fulfill the promise (of replacing their mentors)".
Had Hal passed away in similar circumstances (as a hero instead of turning into a villain and remaining around), Kyle would have suffered of less backlash.
The way I see him, Hal would be Top Gun's Tom Cruise with a Power Ring (he was a fearless pilot, after all).
And for those who don't like Hal back, it could be worse...
