D&D 4E Green ronin going to do 4e products?

Even though you're will be under a gag order as far as the OGL will be concerned, you are allowed to make announcements about your products. Correct?

Which I imagine in a way will give away some info about the 4e OGL. What I mean is if you are able to produce your advanced phb project it'll be clear that the OGL will allow for things like that.

If the Advanced Player's Guide becomes the Advanced Guide to Frogs, well, I think you'll be able to conclude that OGL 2.0 is a bit, er, limiting.

That's right. The OGL that exists now exists "in perpetuity". The D20 system trademark license can be ceased, which would require publishers to stop selling their D20-branded materials.

What WotC could do is put out the 4E OGL as a version that is not an extension of the current OGL, but a "new" OGL that applies more restrictions. OR they could build in a clause forbidding people from using the 4E OGL with any other licenses (to clamp down on reverse engineering 4E material to 3.x, should people be interested in doing that). OR they could demand that people agreeing to the new OGL cease publication of material under the previous OGL, whether those products are entirely separate from the 4E materials or not, essentially enforcing an access clause (as there will be trademark material as part of the new OGL agreement).

Now, I'm not saying that this IS WotC's plan at all. But, until we do know what precisely is in the terms are, it's a bit like Schrodinger's cat.

Cool. Besides, all of us -- ALL OF US -- gamers don't think we need 4e mechanics to make better MnM and True20.
