D&D 4E Green ronin going to do 4e products?

We haven't decided yet. Step one is getting a chance to review the new Open Game License and seeing if we're comfortable publishing material under those terms. We've signed a NDA and are just waiting for WotC to produce the document.

Thanks Chris. I imagine you probably get tired of being asked about 4e. I understand your stance. I'm interpreting your response to be "We'd like to produce for 4e, it just depends on WHAT we're allowed to make". So not sure if that's accurate or not.

I've always enjoyed your products, though besides a short True 20 buying stint I have only bought d20 stuff off of you guys. So here's hoping the new OGL is good enough for you to make 4e stuff.

Or writers, who happen to be playtesters.

yeah I know that Necromancer had Ari write a 4e book to be released. Necromancer stated that they were gonna pony up the $5k and release a book. Whether they have actually paid and gotten the 4e ogl and rules or not is unknown.

Whoa, there, big fella. Let's not get carried away. We are not getting any sneak peeks at the rules, we're not negotiating any special agreements. Nothing of the sort.

Green Ronin is not eager to jump into making ANY decisions about 4E until we see the LICENSE. We've signed the NDA that is required to start the process but so far WotC has not produced a license for review. We are not going to enter into development on products that we're not even sure the license will allow! Until we see the license by which we'd be bound, it doesn't matter if the rules are pure gold and spun by angels: we can't decide until we see the license, which WotC has not yet released.

After we see the terms of the agreement we will know whether or not spending the $5K on the dev kit is something we want to do, considering the kinds of products we have in mind, and then we will get to see the SRD. But seeing the license is Step One and we can't go forward with that until WotC actually releases the license.
I'm just curious.

What does WotC have to say about the future of your SRD-based Mutants & Masterminds and True20 lines? Willl they compel you to drop OGLv1 in favor of the new OGL?

Everyone is in the same boat. We have signed NDAs. We are waiting for WotC to get us the OGL for our review before we decide to pay or not pay. No one has paid (since WotC isnt at the stage of accepting payment yet). No one is getting sneak peeks.

Yes, I have green lit a 4E product (several in fact). Perhaps I wont be able to publish them, but that doesnt stop me from planning. Others are taking more of a wait and see approach.

When asked about this specifically during the conference call (not even by us!) the response was, "Not at this time." They did make clear that the do not intend for the new license to be able to spawn a new generation of M&M-esque stand alone games as the old license allowed for.

Seeing the actual license should clear up may questions. However, since we'll be under NDA, once we DO see it we won't be able to talk about it.

So the current OGLv1 and v1a are still active and valid beyond June 2008?

I thought they were active in perpetuity until they were superceded by a new version of the same license. (which I doubt the 4e version will be).

You can still use old versions of the OGL as well. They don't go away.

Even though you're will be under a gag order as far as the OGL will be concerned, you are allowed to make announcements about your products. Correct?

Which I imagine in a way will give away some info about the 4e OGL. What I mean is if you are able to produce your advanced phb project it'll be clear that the OGL will allow for things like that.

No, the OGL is actually active in perpetuity even if another version of the same license is produced.
