Green Ronin's Assassin class

I'm hoping some other people here have this book and can comment on my tweak to their class.

Killing Blow: the DC based on straight damage scared me (I think because of comments I read somewhere) that I changed it to:

10 + Int bonus + assassin's class level

Which I think is the same as the DMG's Assassin, but going to be higher because the class level starts accumulating at 1.

I also changed the critical hit to double damage, because I have a problem with assassins running around with battleaxes and picks because they have a better critical multiplier. All weapons should be treated equally for these attacks, in my opinion.

Now, with that in mind... do you think the class is balanced? Or that it is weak? It does not get a great deal of skill points for a sneaky and intrusion-oriented character, and I was wondering (since I reduced the power of Killing Blow) whether an increase in skill points to 6/level would be appropriate.

Most level- or HD-based DCs use the formula 10 + 1/2 (class) level + stat modifier. Look at the monk's stunning fist, for example. Those based on prestige classes use straight level as opposed to 1/2, because 1) they can't be taken at 1st level; and 2) they usually only have 10 levels as opposed to 20.

Urgh.

I see that - and thanks for that information - but I don't think I want to further reduce the DC. Aside from the fact that my assassin player would kill me :), a monk can use stunning fist once per day per level, and it's hardly their main ability; for the GR assassin, Killing Blow is their defining ability, and they get to perform it at most 5 times/day (at level 18).

Note that the save DC for the monk's quivering palm is also calculated in exactly the same way. With stat-boosting items (not too hard to get in most games), those DCs can become quite remarkable.

Except now prestige classes can go EPIC and go beyond 10 levels. I use the 10+ class lvel + stat bonus for prestige classes until they go past 10th level. Then I use 15 + 1/2 class level + stat bonus. That keeps them in line with non-prestige classes that use the 10 + 1/2 class level + stat bonus.
