Green Ronin's Game of Thrones

A character generation system that accomodates the old knight and the young squire in the same group, and still makes them both effective in different ways.
Interesting. I left an RPG campaign when another player & I decided to play a knight and his squire. I decided it would work if I had an area or two that didn't overlap with the knight's. The GM disallowed it because a squire had no time for extraneous activities. Not directly applicable, but it comes to mind.

So, how does the game handle this, in brief?

So, how does the game handle this, in brief?

Primarily through Destiny point differential; younger characters have a larger Destiny point pool, reflecting that their future is wide-open. Conversely, older characters have fewer, as they've used up some of their luck surviving to old age. In practice, younger characters will tend to be less skilled to start, but will have more Benefits and a larger Destiny point pool to spend from.

There will still be roleplay issues that might constrain the squire; that's part and parcel of being a squire, really. But it does do something to address the oddity in many games that all adventurers are young, or that the older adventurers are still first level. It lets one person play the grizzled merc and another the teenage cutpurse, and have gel mechanically.
