Greyhawk and Faerun on the same planet?

AFAICS this would work fine if you eg let PCs sail east from Aerdy and arrive on the Sword Coast. That would probably fit Greenwood's original vision more closely than the tacked-on Maztica stuff, and there would still be room for an Oriental realm east of the core FR area and west of the Plains of the Paynims on the Greyhawk map. I think this is actually a really good idea, April Fool or not. :)

At least, that's what I read on the Wizards site some time back. But to be honest, I can't remember whether that was a joke or not, but it seems like one to me. Anyone know for sure? Thanks.
What difference does it really make, anyway?

There was a long-running series of articles in the early-to-mid 1990s in Dragon, called "The Wizards Three", featuring conversations between Mordenkainen, Elminster, and Dalamar (the "dark elf" wizard from Dragonlance). They would meet at Ed Greenwood's house (Ed wrote the series), where Elminster would make Ed hide in a suit of armor so he could eavesdrop on the conversations (Mordenkainen and Dalamar weren't supposed to know that Ed was there). The wizards would then plunder Ed's kitchen while trading stories and spells.

Somehow, I doubt that the stories were meant to be canon for any of the three. ;)
It was a decent series, but it was hard to suspend my disbelief that Mordenkainen and Dalamar wouldn't figure out Elminster's deception (hiding Greenwood in the armor).

Although, I think it was hinted that Mordenkainen was on to him . . .

To the die-hard fans of the both settings, to even suggest that FR and GH are on the same planet is tantamount to heresy. ;)

As I recall, Kara-Tur was originally supposed to be on Oerth, but was later placed on Toril. Although the suggestion of both FR and GH being on the same world is heretical, there could be an alternate world that has the Oerik continent in one hemisphere and Faerûn. It would certainly irritate the characters, and would probably be less odd than such canon as Beyond the Magic Mirror and Dungeonland. Of course, one could use such an alternate world for humor alone.
