Were there any major conflict in Greyhawk history around 40-50 years ago? I cannot find anyplace with a detailed GH history.

I don't know what the "current" Greyhawk date is any more, but as late as 581 Common Year there was a major war called the "Greyhawk Wars", that involved almost every major power in the Flanaess, instituted by several deceptions by both the god Iuz and the Scarlet Brotherhood.

It ended in (I think) CY 584, with a treaty signed in Greyhawk, I believe.

www.canonfire.com is the place to do deep research on Greyhawk, btw.

Try getting the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer. Its the most up to date and through Greyhawk book out there.

*ducks from Col_Pladoh fans*

Mike's right. Any serious Greyhawker will have collected the only Greyhawk product in years :) (not including Dungeon, LGJ, and Living Greyhawk)

Another major conflict that is still ongoing (I think) is the one occuring in the Sundered Empire, which is on the west coast of Oerik (the Flaeness, by contrast, is the sub-continent area at the east coast of Oerik). The Sundered Empire is the campaign setting for the Chainmail miniatures game.

In part, that depends on what your present day in GH is:
  • in the 1980/1983 sets, GH present = 576 CY and 50 years ago = 526 CY
  • in the FtA era, GH present = 584 CY IIRC and 50 years ago = 534 CY
  • in the GH98 and LGG eras, GH present = 591 CY and 50 years ago = 541 CY
  • in the Living Greyhawk campaign, GH present = 593 or 594 CY, I think....

For detailed GH timeline-related questions, you should check out the Oerth Journal #1 (available on Canonfire!), or its later incarnation at http://hometown.aol.com/tamerlain/Greyhawk/GreyChrondex41.html (huge file, btw).

You can also do some serious research in the Greytalk Archive at http://www.greycitadel.com/greycitadel/greytalk.nsf (if you want to search for multiple terms you have to use booleans: "Castle and Greyhawk" yields "Castle Greyhawk" results; search sans quotation marks, of course).
