[Grim Tales]High Magic Grim Tales?

It occurs to me that there already is a system very much like what I want. Spycraft: Dark Inheritance has a system to export standard magic to a five-level slotless system. I could possibly make the class abilities of the Gnostic and Arcanist into talent trees. It's not as high power as D&D, but would make a good intermediary between grim tales and D&D.

Improved Spell Level 1 - You can cast first level spells
Improved Spell Level X - You can cast X level spells (prereq the previous level.)

Rodrigo - What I am proposing would largely rip out the existing Grim Tales magic system -- forget spell burn and all that stuff -- and replace it with something that emulates the D&D magic system, except using the talent chain system.

Based on all of the above, then, I would just use an Improved Spell Level talent that gives the player access to one of the spellcasting classes' spell advancement table-- and my recommendation would be Bard. (The character's caster level should equal his character level.)

Note that's just for spells known and spells per day-- let them choose from any spell list you like.

If you want *HIGH MAGIC* then I suggest you borrow a page or two from Blue Rose.

1. Every time you take improved caster level, you gain +x to your Spellcasting Skill.
2. Spells have a DC to cast. You may add up to your Spellcasting Skill to your d20 roll to succeed.
3. When you cast a spell, you need to make a WIL save equal to 10 + how much Spellcasting Skill you used to cast the spell. If you fail, to take a level of fatigue. Every spell you cast within one hour adds 1 to the DC to resist fatigue. Refraining from casting magic for one hour resets this counter.
