GRIMM: Full Treatment ... non-d20?

On this note, Midnight continues to be a fan favorite, so you'd better believe we will continue to support it! Look for Forge of Shadow by Christmas, Midnight 2nd Edition by summer of next year, and at least several more setting/crunch books for the campaign.

As for Grimm, a bunch of you thus far have spake the truth ;) . Grimm was great fun to work on, and is cool for a few sessions, but the fans that really love it have been asking us to support longer-term campaigns for it. The d20 version of Grimm isn't really made for a long-term campaign, though, and of all the Horizon books, Grimm seemed to be the one that would benefit the most from a specialized in-house system.

That's certainly good news about Midnight, and I can certainly see where a non-d20 version of Grimm would help in a longer campaign. On a similar note, does FFG have any plans that you know of to continue supporting Dawnforge?

The only question left in my mind is: "would i have bought the original version if i'd known there was a non-D20 System version on the horizon (no pun intended)?" I'm honestly not sure. I'm just not much of a fan of D20 System, but it really is a gem of a game.

I think I still would have -- at the price it's at, Grimm's d20 version is really too good to pass up, and, as most of my gaming is d20 right now (well, all of it is), it's nice to have the mini-game with rules I'm familiar with -- having the d20 mini-game lets me see if the setting's one that I'm interested in exploring further and definitely encourages me to pick up the full-length game. Not a viable marketing plan by any stretch of the imagination (mini-game in d20, full game in house system), at least as I understand the industry, but I liked it here.

a great little game

Grimm d20 is a great little game. This post reminds me that I need to run that free adventure I downloaded (thanks FFG!) as a 1-shot for my players. After reading the adventure, I bought the book. After reading the book, I was prompted to go down to the local library, check out a book of Grimm's Fairy Tales, and read some selections.

I think I'll pass on the Grimm RPG, though. I really like it as a d20 mini-game, but I don't think I can muster up the will to read 256 pages of it for $40; especially since I know my players won't be into it.

One of my buddies may like it. I'll forward him a link. Maybe he'll pick it up. He can be a gaming miser, though.

I think this is a great idea. d20 doesn't really work for Grimm.

I would say, rather, that Grimm doesn't add anything for d20. Nothing I could take home or use from the setting.

GRIMM non-d20? No!

This does not bode well. I better pick up what remaining copy of that mini-game and lament.
I have a copy of the mini-game and it's great. But I'm definitely not buying a non-d20 game! I'm happy to run it as a 6 level mini-game.

I hope this does not signal the end of the Horizons line. I have really enjoyed reading those books. They really do push the d20 envelope. I even ran a Spellslinger mini-campaign that was pretty fun.

The new edition is mostly updating to 3.5, otherwise they would be doing what they have avoided so well so far...

fear not, it changes rules, not the world, although I am only a fan in this matter I know well the people involved in the Midnight line, liek Fury.

Oh, i dunno--the swallowing rules are an excellent addition, IMHO, just as appropriate for Beowulf as for fairy tales, and thus perfectly useable in a "standard" game. I seem to remember there was one other thing that we thought we might use in a regular game, but i don't have the time to dig the book out right now and see if i can refresh my memory.
