Narkaius, how do the Evolution Points factor into this? Does each weapon wielded against an enemy gain EP after that enemy has fallen? Do the "attachments" you speak of gather the EP? Do the characters themselves gather this latent spirit-residue from the defeated? Is the energy of a particular type, like spiritual residue or positive energy? If so, do undead, constructs, elementals, plants, fiends, etc. produce such energy upon defeat? Is it just a generic mystical force? Is it only weapons that are affected, or do shields, armor, potions, gauntlets, etc. gain EP too? Do the weapons have to possess magical or masterwork qualities already, or is any sort of weapon capable of gaining Evolution Points?
Do the characters spend the points on their weapons, or do the EP gathered just accumulate within the character, enhancing any weapon they wield? Do the characters choose how their weapons advance, or do the weapons develop based on mental resonance from the personalities and actions of the characters?
Does the material within the weapon determine what abilities it develops instead? Do adamantine weapons have an innate tendency to develop special cutting or smashing powers (Keen, Thundering, Disruption, Mighty Cleaving, Vorpal, Wounding, etc)? Do wooden weapons have a tendency towards defensive, lively, and mystical powers? Etc.
Also, how do the "attachments" work? What are the attachments, and how rare are they? Are they rare gems, precious stones, or specially-crafted talismans of various materials? Who can craft these attachments, and how? Only magic-users, or can mundanes do so as well? Can psionic characters/creatures create attachments? Can attachments be switched between different weapons?
If more than just weapons have attachment-slots, then can each attachment be used for multiple types of items, and are its effects the same each time? (i.e. does 'flame weapon' attachment grant armor or shields 'fire resistance' instead, or grant an ability that burns enemies who touch the character? does it add fire damage to a wand if inserted into the wand? when inserted into bracers or the like, does it grant a bonus on saves against fire or something?)
What about that Enemy enchantment? Does it only improve damage, or does it also/instead grant effective enhancement bonuses, extra damage dice, more lethal critical hits, greater threat range, attack bonuses, etc.?
Food for thought. Cool idea though.
