[GRPR] Green Ronin Licenses the Black Company!

You know, if you include a map of the setting, you're going to get non-gamers buying this book just for that. :)

Yep. A map of the Black Company world's worth it's weight in gold. Actually, it's probably worth more than that....

Cool! While I personally would have preferred a Garrett RPG, it's nice to see Glen Cook get licensed. And by a competent company.

Oh man, that is SO cool. Thank you GR (and thank you Glen!). Glen Cook is the man who made me want to be a writer. I got hooked on Mr. Cook through the Dread Empire series (which--I might add--woudl also make a kick-@## property hint hint) but the Black Company really cemented it for me.

Congratulations on getting a fine, fine licence. I can't wait to see it!

YES!!!!

Chris, you already have my money for this book. I was impressed by Testament and I look forward to the Black Company book. Let us hope that this property sells so well that you will have a strong demand for more sequels.

At the risk of seeming nosy, how long have you been negotiating with Glen Cook on this? I am pleased that such a wonderful series as the Black Company will be made into a gaming product. (Gamers have appreciated the Black Company series for many years. I first learned about The Black Company from an article by E. Gary Gygax in Dragon magazine that praised the book. He was right on this one.)

Will there be a preview of the book at Gen Con?

Green Ronin rocks like a giant samurai warrior made of stone. Glittering stone, even.

The negotiation wasn't that long. Less than six months (whereas we've had others stretch on for two years!).

For me, Black Company was one of those rare instances where I was sucked in by a cover. It was 1984 and the original novel had just come out. I saw the illo of Soulcatcher with that wicked dagger and thought, "Wow, that looks cool." So I read the back cover and the book sounded interesting, so I picked it up. 20 years later and I'm going to publish the RPG book. :)

As for GenCon, it's way to early to tell what we might have there. A preview is definitely possible.

i bought all 10 books in anticipation for this...

If you don't mind me asking, how involved will Mr. Cook be in the project? Will he vet drafts, just give a blessing once he sees the final product or is he trusting in your judgement?

And the original cover was cool. Souldcatcher, red eyes looking out from that mask, carving a glowing pentagram into a black surface with a big dagger and a single white rose just off to the side. Simple, but mighty effective.

And I am very excited about seeing the new magic system. I know this is really early on, but are there any other tweaks to the rules that you envision?

Thanks again. Take care all.

This is SOO cool. :) Black Company and GR together. This will SO rule, especially now that the SRD has epic level rules. ;)
