A video review of Hannibal, the NBC series and this review does not include cannibalism jokes because those are in bad taste. The series is well done and leaves you hungry for more. The review does include comments about making this work in an RPG game.

How does Hannibal compare to The Following?

To me, The Following has a big problem: by the end of episode 3, it is clear that the situation is not being caused by brilliant criminals, but by inept FBI agents.

I've not seen the Following so I cannot comment on that show. In terms of Hannibal, the FBI is not really inept, at least not in the first season, because they have no reason to suspect Hannibal himself. Bryan Fuller said it would be like believing Fraiser Craine was a mass murdering cannibal - he is not the first person you suspect. This might change in the second season, as a lot of it will involve Will Graham jumping up and down screaming "It was Hannibal, it was Hannibal."

Thanks to the DVDs being available on Netflix, I can tell you that season 1 of Hannibal is much, much better than The Following. After finishing episode 4, I'm still interested. They almost went into stupid territory at the end of episode 3 (idiot brother breaking into home of daughter traumatized by seeing her parents killed and backing her against a wall, police not bothering to search the house and yard when someone they caught trespassing on a crime scene says she wasn't alone), but they recovered.
One bit that seemed missing: Why were Lector and main guy the ones to go to the house to confront Shrike? Weren't there other agents closer to the house? Shouldn't they have had back up? Or is that who Lector said he was calling when he was warning Shrike? Seems like there was a missing bit of exposition there.

Still, much, much, much better done show.
Thank you for pointing it out.
