I wouldn't take that bet, as I bet that you're right. Which also works. Beholders are supposed to be somewhat complicated monsters, and not in the "motivation" sense.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Ever since he's been involved in the online community at the WotC site, it's really gone downhill IMO. Because of that, I've completely avoided his podcasts.

I knew what this meant long before I played WoW. Also, I have a lot of friends who have never played any MMOGs, but they know the term.

It's just part of gamer culture, and it has been for a long time.

I'd say this is a subjective matter.

The first thing I thought when I heard the hill giant's powers was, "Cool... that's like when the ogres in LotR swept into battle!"

If by 'long time' you mean 'since Everquest' then yes. It has no meaning outside of a game where the enemies are controlled by a computer program.

And Everquest was hardly the first to have those. A lot of MUDs used the term aggro well before the advent of graphical MMORPGs.

Everquest is like 10 years old, and on the internet thats like the equivalent of a few millennia.

Oh noes, he used general gaming culture lingo! Skewer the man!

I'm guessing you're not too familiar with PC Gaming as a whole, or, more specifically, text based MUDs, where the term has its origin. It's probably been around since the early 90s, if I were to hazard a guess.

Like Rodrigo said, it's a worthless terminology to apply to a tabletop roleplaying game. I'm sure you've been saying for months how they weren't turning D&D into WoW, but it looks like those analyses were spot on. PC Gaming is completely devoid of imagination, which is one of the pillars of tabletop roleplaying...if PCs and monsters are designed to act according to some sort of digital formula, then they've redefined D&D away from the genre that it invented.

Good thing they didn't do that. They made it advantageous to attack soldiers, instead of making it automatic. Having monsters do that is nice, but the fact that fighters and paladins couldn't do this well in past editions was one of the things that was most disappointing to me.
