So I've had some down time and have been playing the Knights of the Old Republic games. I remember a while back that some of the most entertaining RPing I'd done was playing the old WEG d6 SWRP so I thought I'd look into the d20 SWRPG ... had never really been interested in it, my tastes had moved elsewhere after the last couple stinkers George produced and I had no interest in playing in that timeline.
The Old Republic/Tales of the Jedi era, though ... could be fun.
Anway, I was looking over the SWRPG book in Barnes and Noble and realized that all of the Jedi classes get, for the most part, the exact same abilities. They get different skills, HP, BAB, stuff like that, but for the most part all get the same abilities. What this seemed like to me was a Talent Tree more than anything else, the same Talents taken by different classes in a different progression.
Which got me thinking about whether or not the game would keep the proper flavor in a free-form classed system like d20Modern/GrimTales with feats/talents replacing the Force-user classes much like the magical talent tree replaces spellcasting classes in Grim Tales. Perhaps with a tree or two that would be available to a majority of the classes, or perhaps ALL of the base classes.
Grabbing a few Jedi talents with Strong levels would net you the same warrior-priest aspect of the Guardian ... Smart/Fast-Jedi giving you a bit of that Sentinel flavor ... Charismatic-Jedi the infamous and seldom-seen Jedi generals, teachers, leaders.
Anybody else thought of this? Not that I even have the TIME for another game, but I find myself wondering what games wouldn't work as well or better within the 6-class framework.
