Guess What?! NC Game Day VIII is September 10th!

Hey, Riggs, if you need any additional opinions, I've run a couple of BCCS games myself (players played 6th level pre-gens). Just start a thread in the d20 systems forum, tell Rel and Speaks to keep out, and we can, ahem, "challenge Rel and friends appropriately." :)

Good on ya', Henry...that is a fine idea. BTW, don't you have a SH to finish, slacker? :p!

Well, I'm registered for the Spycraft game. I too, have the books (Spycraft and Shadowforce Archer [the setting book]) but have never had the chance to actually play in a game.

This'll be my first NC Game Day, so I'm excited. I'm from the Greensboro area, but my sis lives in Raleigh. I'll see if I can steal her guest room.

Welcome aboard, Thaniel! I look forward to meeting and playing with you in Henry's Spycraft game. If you own the books then you're ahead of me but my experience has always been that Henry makes life easy on the newbie players.

Hi, Thaniel! We'll look forward to seeing you there. As Rel says, I try to make things easy going, and I'm running this game with its default assumption being a demo, anyway, so have no fears. The biggest hurdle would be if someone had never played a d20 game before -- past that, you're good to go, and better off than most! :)

I'll be using solely the Spycraft Espionage Handbook (the 1.0 core book) for simplicity more than anything else, and also to showcase some of the cool elements that went into Spycraft that even after three years I consider simply genius. The pre-gens we'll be using won't be so much "power-gamed efficient espionage/death machines" so much as show-offs for some of the neater abilities and concepts in the book. And if anyone likes it a lot, it's a pretty nice coincidence that Spycraft 2.0 will have been in stores for about a month at that time. :)

Now, if I could convince someone from AEG to "duke me" a copy of 2.0 to run the game in... ;)

So that means a big car chase, right? Can't play Spycraft without a car chase. :)

I've never played SpyCraft either, but it's a spy game, I'll brush up on my driving manuveurs and have some attitude. Should be just fine!

Sanctioned Games

The ladies at All Fun and Games mentioned that they would be willing to run sanctioned miniature or card games at game day. There would be a tournament fee because they provide prizes, but it could be a fun thing to do at game day.

Rel, Morgenes....what do you think?

Absolutely Henry! I'll do that. Rel's still beating us up in another game right now so no hurry, but it's not a bad thing to get some cool ideas running. I'll probably solicit some ideas early on , then as I relearn the mechanics more, ask how you dealt with X or handled Y.

I'll prethank OO and Henry for future taxation on their minds to help. I wouldn't want to be soft in a BC world :)

And now I will take this bit out of this fine Gameday thread...

I'm going to do my best to make it to this one. I'm actually closer now, but now that I'm "Professor nakia" I have no idea what my life will be like once the semester starts.

I may just come up for the afternoon slot with Rel's Sky Galleons game and dinner. I had a great time at the last one, so I'm going to try and make it again.

Henry, is your Spycraft game full? I played Spycraft with Piratecat at GenCon two years ago and had a blast with the game and the system.

It sounds like a fun option to provide.

My general inclination would be to encourage them to cut back on the prizes to the point where they feel that they can provide the games for free. If they're talking about a fee to cover the cost of the decks or minis and then taking the profits and putting them toward the prizes (such that the player is only paying the cost of the initial purchase) then I think that is fine.

I'm not stating this as a prohibition on games for a fee. And the All Fun & Games crowd has been good to and for the NC Game Day folks. I've got nothing but love for those ladies. I'm only saying this from the standpoint that I like the idea of NC Game Day as a free event and I'm striving to keep it that way as much as possible.

So far, to the best of my recollection, all of the prizes offered at Game Day have been free extras and no fees have been involved in any of the games themselves. The folks with whom Morgenes is associated have charged for the sodas/snacks/pizza and the cost for these has generated a small profit but that money is dumped right back into their game library. And since the food and drinks are at a cost at or below what is charged in the Student Center anyway, it seems like a good deal all around.

Once again, I see nothing inherently wrong with charging the fee to support the prizes, but it does move away in some fractional manner from my core concept of what Game Day is all about. That said, nobody hired me to define what Game Day is all about and I'm perfectly willing to listen to other opinions on the matter.

I'd love to have you in my game again and let me make this my official "Welcome Back to North Carolina!" as well. :)
