No. In fact I don't want to see guns at all in core. As an optional module for people who want to play a more "developed" civilization? Sure.

But not core. Guns are great in sci-fi, western-horror, and such things. I loved them in Deadlands, but really, not at all what I consider to be "core" D&D.

I have no problem with firearm rules as an option. They probably shouldn't appear in the core.

However, there is no place for a Gunslinger class. Firearms are weapons, nothing more. The class you want already exists - it's called "Fighter".

I'm strongly opposed to gunpowder in stock D&D. It has absolutely no business being in the core three. It has no business being in a "Complete Fighter" or "Arms and Equipment" type of general supplement.

If, on the other hand, they wanted to put out a steam-punk (or otherwise technomagical hybrid) source book, I'd have no problem with it. I might even purchase and use it. I want it isolated, though, so it's crystal clear it is a serious deviation from stock assumptions.

This is how I feel. I don't want gunpowder anywhere near "my" D&D ("my" meaning my personal game). If it's in the core, it becomes a "Why can't I use it" argument that I don't want to have to deal with.

In a supplement, clearly labeled as an environment where gunpowder makes sense, I can accept it. In that case, I can simply say "We're not playing that setting." Also, I can make the conscious decision to not participate in any games that use that setting.

You are downplaying how thoroughly the "maybe in a later splat book" option is thrashing both the yes and no options.

I voted "maybe in a later splat book" for one simple reason. I do not want it in D&D, but I'm tired of seeing people whine that they can't have it. If it never makes it into a book I'll be happy, but if it does appear, at least I'll no longer have to hear the demands for it anymore.

Again, as long as it's clear this is a niche being filled and not anywhere near a core experience, I'll reluctantly accept its existence.

I'm yet another who really doesn't think it belongs in core, but it's certainly welcome in a supplement. The core of D&D for most people really doesn't have firearms included as a regular part. Even Gygax included firearms, but only in very supplemental ways (property of a plane-spanning demigod, one-off trips to the "Boot Hill" or "Gamma World" universes, a unique "magic item" in Xagyg's tower, etc.) You weren't going to see fighters in the first half-dozen editions of D&D spamming gunfire as a regular attack, and when most gamers and "person off the street" thinks of D&D, firearms is not usually part of the concept.

However, as an option? Heck, Yeah! I have one guy in my upcoming Jade Regent Pathfinder game jonesing to be a gunslinger, and I say "let's roll." :)
