Oops, sorry for the long post.

Sorry? Don't be sorry! Thats not a long post. The point of the boards is for discussion, so as long as you are contributing what difference does it make if you have a long or short post? I've had many longer, and many shorter.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
...squeals like little girl

I have waited SO LONG for this. Excuse me. Have to go comb forums for spoilers, see if GURPS Gulliver is making it into core rules. Between this & D&D 3rd edition, this is the best decade of my gaming life.

...And yes, I am gaming slut. Why do you ask? ;)

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

What I'd like to see in Gurps 4th:

1) More mental stats, instead of just 1. The skill list is too cluttered for my taste, everything is based on either IQ or DX

2) Change the skill system so it's more like d20s, instead of the weird system now. Maybe Skill Rating plus 3D6 >= target number

3) Eliminate all the bonuses for taking penalties (like drunkness, having one eye, etc.) Having them just promotes munchkinness.

I dunno, I thought that the suggested limit of 40 points worth of disadvantages took care of this satisfactorily ... granted, it is explicit that the limit need not be used.

I still like the idea of being able to construct a character like the blind swordsman(for those who don't know, this was an old japanese tv show ... I think ... which was later resurrected in the form of a movie called Blind Fury).

I also think that the new Unearthed Arcana has an optional mechanic similar to this, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong; I don't own the book myself.

What?! They're releasing another edition of GURPS already? But we were just getting used to the last edition of GURPS.

I swear, $teve Jack$on Game$ is just trying to screw gamers out of more money. ;)

Already in Compendium I. According to published info, Vol I of 4th edition is combination of Basic Set + Compendium I.

Ick. Wouldn't like this. Also, unlikely - 3d6 mechanic not broken, not reason to change it.

Heh. Any system which gives control to players == promotes munchkinness. Personally, I prefer to give players as much control over characters as possible; if need balance, just build enemies to taste.

GURPS Fantasy & Magic look mighty tasty.

huh, the news must've overloaded their server, because i can't get their site to come up.

i hate to say this, but this news would've made me pee my pants if it had come like ten years ago. GURPS has needed a revision for a long time.

i used to be a huge GURPS fan. i still own over 80 GURPS books. but since 2000, i only play d20 games. GURPS had a chance to keep me as a loyal player, and lost it quite some time ago.

edit: but to be fair, i was saying exactly the same thing about D&D in 1999, when i was a rabid hardcore GURPShead. so if GURPS 4e is well-done, i'll be as giddy as a schoolgirl. :)

Don't get me wrong, I like GURPS, but there is a fundamental flaw with the system. It breaks down at the high end. Once you get a 14 ish dodge, the game devolves into who can roll the crit first, or not blow the dodge roll. Other than that complaint, GURPS is as functional and interesting as most systems come.

FYI, David Pulver popped into one of the myriad threads about this over on RPG.net with some very good news: the covers of the new GURPS4e books featured on the SJG site are placeholders. Repeat, they are not the final covers.

For which we can all breathe a sigh of relief... *whew*

d4: Yeah, but... Hardcover. 512 pages (Vol I & II total). Revisions that have been needed for while... and they took the time to do right. I'm feeling like a school girl in a short skirt. And why be diehard anything? I've been a fan of GURPS and D&D together for a looong time :).

Wrahn: AC 32 and 65 in same D&D game. Attack bonuses are all in the +22 to +38. That's breaking at high end. There is not a system that does not break at some extreme.

Buzz: Thank goodness. But I had faith ^_^.
