Hello again,

Thanks, Sir Draconion. Seems like they've made some serious changes to some of the characters as well.

Swashbuckler, Warrior, and (ugh, how'd HE make it into the set) Minotaur seem about the same as before.

Knight Templar seems very little like the old Knight, who could match the Strength of player opponents in combat. I notice that both he and the Dwarf get multiple bits of armor. Is there any benefit to this, beyond having a backup in case one breaks? (There wasn't in Second Edition, you just used the best one you had.)

Ranger is slightly improved, starting with objects and getting cards in the Desert.

Barbarian has changed, but seems about the same in overall power, trading his extra attack for pluses on a single attack at the risk of an extra life.

Wood Elf seems fairly close to the old Elf, though the Bow-as-object thing is new. Before it was just a character ability some characters had (Centaur, Samurai, perhaps others).

Dwarf looks worse off than before, trading his huge advantages along the Craft route for a couple of starting objects.

Goblin Fanatic seems much better than the old Goblin.

Skaven is wholly new, and seems like some sort of Were-Rat.

The Wizard is the biggest piece of news here to me. He's the only one of the old "always-has-a-spell" characters in the new set, and the "always-has-a-spell" ability looks to have been HUGELY Nerfed into the ability to buy spells with Experience. He also has the Conjurer's old ability to cast one spell while discarding another, while seemingly losing his old ability to initiate Psychic Combat. I'm a bit bummed to see him with the main power of the Conjurer, who was my favorite of the old characters. Hopefully the Wizard isn't still Evil in the new version...

And while I know they can only put so many characters in the main set, I'm surprised they picked the Minotaur, Goblin Fanatic, and Skaven while leaving out cool dudes like the Monk, the Necromancer, and the Warrior of Chaos (who is virtually the Iconic Talisman character).

Well, we'll see what sort of expansions get released for this version - there were a few for the old 3rd Edition, perhaps they'll be reprinted. But at any rate, thanks again for the info, Sir Draconion! :)

The original game was a blast.

The second "warhammerized" edition was tedious and dull, and took entirely too long to play.

Judging from what others have said here, it seems that the latest version is a descendant of the warhammerized version.
