The Hargrove Grove? Har!

Hargrove is actually a British name derived from a place name. . . Hare's Grove. Sadly, no places in the town where I grew up are named for me! We did have a Gordy Park, a Graham Park, a Rice Park, and a Teeter Nature Trail, though.

Does the memorial have a go-ahead from the local planning authority, or is it still a proposal?

If there's a bench, and his statue seated, you could still set up a table and run a game.

You know, something that communicates "Gygax the Legend" as opposed to Gary the Actual Person.

In Lake Geneva, quite a number of people are likely to remember Gary the Actual Person and might want their memorial to reflect that. I think game elements can be great.

A stone table with Gary seated at it as if DMing would be awesome, especially if no one minded groups coming and using the table for games. I think he would have gotten a chuckle out of knowing people would be playing games with his statue seated at the table for years after he had gone.

The idea of having him sit at a game table, where others can sit with him, does sound awesome. This kind of interactive statue isn't all that rare: one example is this statue of Swedish poet Nils Ferlin. For Gary, I think he should be at the head of a table with room for four; either gamers or picnic-eaters should fit.

(emphasis mine) Gary would have had a good laugh at just room for four. Some of his original modules were written for 9 - 12 players. The modern idea of a single DM and four players still makes me giggle. Give me a group of 6 - 10 and things are finally looking interesting.

But the idea of a sit down monument is quite a great idea, I'm sure he would approve of the idea. Too bad he isn't around to discuss it.
