Your combat style and tactics allows you to hide easily when there is cover or concealment, even when having to flee from melee.

I have chosen the sling, because i don´t know how blinding barrage should work with a crossbow. ;) And if your DM allows, you can use the sling to fire off some alchemical items.

You can as well use the standard rogue weapon talent and use shurikens (the most versatile build actually), but sling is more halflingy.

The most powerfull option is asuperior crossbow, but IIRC you can´t use it as halfling.

Your next feats would be backstabber and light shield proficiency for extra damage and protection. The rest is up to your taste.

Guess the question to the OP is does he want to make a Rogue or a Ranger.

Effective Halfling Rangers can be built now with a Short Bow:

====== Created Using Wizards of the Coast D&D Character Builder ======
level 1

Fighting Style: Archer Fighting Style
Ranger: Running Attack

FINAL ABILITY SCORES
Str 10, Con 11, Dex 20, Int 8, Wis 14, Cha 12.

STARTING ABILITY SCORES
Str 10, Con 11, Dex 18, Int 8, Wis 14, Cha 10.

AC: 15 Fort: 11 Reflex: 16 Will: 12
HP: 23 Surges: 6 Surge Value: 5

TRAINED SKILLS
Nature +7, Dungeoneering +7, Heal +7, Stealth +10, Acrobatics +12

UNTRAINED SKILLS
Arcana -1, Bluff +1, Diplomacy +1, Endurance, History -1, Insight +2, Intimidate +1, Perception +2, Religion -1, Streetwise +1, Thievery +7, Athletics

FEATS
Level 1: Halfling Short Bow Hunter

POWERS
Ranger at-will 1: Twin Strike
Ranger at-will 1: Nimble Strike
Ranger encounter 1: Two-Fanged Strike
Ranger daily 1: Split the Tree

ITEMS
Shortbow
====== Copy to Clipboard and Press the Import Button on the Summary Tab ======

The Halfling Shortbow Hunter feat gives your Short Bow the brutal 2 property which puts your average die damage at 5.5 vs. a Greatbow at 6.5 for a net loss of 1 point per die of damage or dead on with a Longbow. Totally acceptable.

but how does the companion thing work?

It's in Martial Powers.

You select Beast Mastery instead of Archery or Two-Blade fighting (original options from the Players Handbook).

It's a little too complicated to type... not to mention against the rules.

Do you have MP? A D&DI subscription?
