Half-Celestials: Who plays one, and what are they *Really* worth?

How's that?

Well, it's not official. It's the opinion of a Savage Species author, and it makes sense, which lends it a lot of weight...

... but the official LA is +4, with or without wings.

Choosing to play a wingless Half-Celestial could be considered a little like choosing to play a Troll sorcerer - the ECL doesn't really reflect your power appropriately, like a Troll barbarian, for instance.

But you could petition your DM, and say "Look, I like this concept, but I know it's going to be underpowered... could we call it a +4 LA instead of a +5?"

Asking the DM to drop a wingless Celestial to +3 LA is perfectly reasonable.. but it's not official.

I'm playing a H-C

I started playing one. She's 5th character level, so that mean she's a second level paladin.

Despite the great saves, she is in danger of dying all the time. She only has two HD after all.

Also she has a rather low BAB and despite being second level she advances like a 5th level character.

I.E. She will advance much slower than actualy second level characters, which means she'll have low HPs for a long time

Also when fighters are getting 3 iterative attacks my H-C is jsut getting use to having two.

Believe me, low level H-C despite the frills and stats bonuses is difficult. Its defiently a trade off.

As to your no wings policy. Thats BS. Let your player roll the 75%. If (s)he doesn't get it tough. But either way you keep the ECL as the book states.

A Pal16/HalfCel4 is tough, especially if geared towards maximising Charisma and the benefits therefrom.

(There are two PrCs in the Freeport Campaign setting that add Charisma to AC, but they're both "any non-Lawful" :( )

Half Celestials get the same bonus to Wisdom. Build that up a little, too, and take one level of Monk for frontload. It'll also improve your spells.

True, but it's harder to twink Wisdom quite so hard, since there isn't really an equivalent of the DotF version of Armor of Command for Wisdom...

one thing that actually always confused me was...

Their More powerful...naturally...shouldn't everything in their life only be Easier? now i understand it's all for balancing the game, but...would a drow be better than an elf under what i believe are 'normal circumstances'?

How is it a Half-Celestial will be a lower cleric, than a Human Cleric when they've adventured just as much together...you'd think the Celestial would have bonuses, possibly being the 'decendant' of that god etc.

How is it a teifling gains experience more slowly than an elf? In a realism sense, well, it just doesn't make sense...
