Half-Elf abilities

Half-elves might be able to get a class feature from another class (the XP warlock had a ranger feature, and the KotS cleric has a weapon power that marks the enemy), though there may be other reasons for that.

...I keep seeing this (in reference to additional powers beyond the "at-will as an encounter" power), so I checked it myself...

The XP warlock has no Ranger feature. They don't get Hunter's Quarry, they get Warlock's Curse (admittedly similar). They get the ability Prime Shot, but this is not a Ranger class ability, as the Ranger doesn't have it. I imagine it is a feat or a Warlock ability.

The KotS cleric has no power that marks the enemy. In fact, the only weapon power he has is "Healing Strike". The FAQ for KotS suggests another one (Bolstering Strike) as the multiclassing power, but this still doesn't mark the enemy.

Neither of these are true. Why do they keep getting spread?

Or am I crazy and missing something?

Not sure where the link is, but a Wizard rep stopped by ENWorld and confirmed the half-elf gets another classes at-will as encounter power as a racial feature.

The ranger does get Prime Shot. Someone posted a pic of the PHB lead-in for the ranger and Prime Shot is a ranger class feature.

An official confirmation of half elf at-will as encounter power:
Here!

As I mentioned, "there might be other reasons for" what we're seeing.

In this case, it might be that the ability somehow ended up on the wrong pregen, but Prime Shot is a Ranger feature.

That is exactly the power I'm referring to. While I don't have the adventure itself, scans of the pregens have been seen, and in those scans, the power clearly says "Hit: 2d8+1 radiant damage, and the target is marked until the end of your next turn. ..." In this case, it might be a native feature of the power.

Healing Strike...

That is my assumption as well, that healing strike has a "mark" effect built in, which means -2 attack if you attack anyone but the marker.

Ah, that makes more sense for the Ranger power. Thanks. I'm guessing that it was put on the wrong sheet as well, since Rhiardon doesn't have it.

As for the Healing Strike, it is a Cleric Attack 1. I don't think this has anything t do with being a half elf, or any sort of multiclass thing. It's odd, but nowhere has it been said that only a defender can mark. In fact, since our two leaders (Cleric/Warlord) both have a bit of defender in them as well, I think a marking power is perfectly natural. Note, however, that it's a power, not a class ability, so for the Cleric marking is a choice.

Thanks again.

What we know for sure.

+2 Chr and possibly +2 to another stat (or +2 Con)
+2 to insight and diplomacy

+1 to allies diplo checks within 10ft.
1 at will from another class as an encounter power.

That is it that we know of.

Compared to:
+2 to any stat
trained skill of choice
feat of choice (including a multi-class feat which makes the human better then the half-elf straight up).
extra at will ability from class!
+1 to all defenses (fort, will and ref!)

If this is really all half-elves get, should we rename them half-humans to denote they get half as much for racial abilities? I am hoping this is not the case.

See ya,
Ken

I can´t see how you are counting:

+2 to one more stat is worth a lot (saves, skills etc)

+2 to two skills is about as good as an extra skill.

an at will of a different class is something you can´t get with any other race (easily competes with at will from class)

+1 to allies diplomacy is worth something if you are more of a team player

beeing elf could give them access to elven feats (elven weapon training sounds quite powerfull)

Ok so we cancel the skill bonus with the extra skill (a net -1 bonus, but ok), we gain +2 to Chr, and the at will and encounter cancel out.

And the human is left with...
A extra feat
+1 to Fort
+1 to Ref
+1 to Will

Not even close.

Did I mention the human can take the multi-class feat with his EXTRA feat and get the same extra encounter bonus AND an extra skill? and after that Still have an extra +1 to the three defenses.

Not even close.
