Half-Elves in 3.5

NP Nail just making sure I didnt miss anything...

And Gilwen thats also a very good idea more equal than a choice betwen skillpoints/profciencies would be. I hope they implement something like that in 3.5

Ther's a half-elf in the first 3e campaign I played in. Or rather was: he's a plant now (verdant lord). He never complained (and is the most dangerous character in our party)

I'm happy for him. I just feel that half elves are not balanced against the other races. I also feel that they are not realsticaly portrayed...they get some of the benefits of being an elf but essentialy nothing from there human side. story wise it doesnt jibe for me.

Although not core (and thus probably not meant for a "Rules" thread), there are feats out there that have "elf" as a pereq. Half-elves qualify for those....that might help your "flavor" concerns too.

Yea thats true. I just really think they could use a little work. I think getting to choose either the bonus feat or the elven proficencies works real well for making them on par with the other races. Adding maybe just the skill points, or the feat, would address that and the unrealism/only getting abilities from one side thing.
Out of curiosity what sort of abilities do thease feats give?

Half Elves have a feat

The half elf do have a bonus feat at level 1: low light vision.

The main diference between a human and a half elf( in the bonus feat aspect) is that the Half elf can´t choose the feat. It´s low light vision only, Period.

What i think is that they also should have an extra skill point per level.

borrowed from kalamar

One option is to make the standard "1/2 breeds" a hardier stock, and give them a +1 fort save bonus. This is what is done with half-hobgoblins in Kalamar, and I could see granting it to half-elves. Mind you, once the ranger, druid, monk and bard classes get upgraded, the whole "any class is favoured" could become more useful.

Azure Trance,

That makes for a very, very strong feat. Three out of four of those listed abilities would make fair feats in their own right, albeit towards the weak end of the power spectrum. +1 to 3 skills is comparable to Skill Focus. Immunity to Sleep and +2 against Enchantments is clearly better than Arcane Defense. Low light vision makes a reasonable feat, too. Plus the elven blood thing is just thrown in for giggles.

While the logic of that makes sense (that the half-elven abilities are worth more than a feat, probably more like 2-3 feats) the lost skill points (4 at first level, +1 per level afterward) overcompensate IMHO. 4 skill points is probably worth around about a feat in itself; better than Skill Focus in most circumstances. At least 2-3 Feats worth over the life of the character.
