Half Janni ECL Questions/ Observations

I'm thinking of playing a half janni soon (as the last campaign was put on hold), as I really enjoy the concept.

However, I was wondering if one were to drop the planar jaunt ability, if that would be sufficient to drop half janni ECL to +2 instead of +3.

On a side note, I find it funny that the half janni has a better transportation method than a full janni, as Full Janni gain Ethereal Jaunt for an hour a day, and half janni get planar jaunt for min/ hd, allowing far more options for where to go. I think that a full janni might need to be revised to have planar jaunt for an hour a day instead of ethereal.

Also, comparing a Half Janni to a Half Celestial I had a few observations. Primarily, Half Celestial seems so much more powerful than the simple +1 ECL increase over a half janni. Or are the abilities and stat adjustments for half janni much better than i'm understanding.


Oh, one more thing. It's not quite related to the ECL, but how old do you figure could a half janni get?

I'd do what I do for most outsider templates, and just increase all age categories by either half or double, except the starting one.

So, a human half-jann would reach middle age at 70, old age at 106, venerable at 140, and have a maximum age of 140+2d20 (but still be mature at 16).

Or just use the elf ages.
 

I made up my own half-janni race for my Dragonlance campaign, as well as 3 janni racial levels a la Arcana Unearthed. It doesn't have a level adjustment, which was the thing I really found annoying about the half-janni in Dragon magazine.

Half-Janni
• +2 Con, -2 Wis.
• Medium: As Medium creatures, half-janni have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
• Half-janni base land speed is 30 feet.
• +2 racial bonus on saving throws vs. attacks and spells with an elemental descriptor (air, cold, earth, fire or water) or the special attacks and spell-like abilities of creatures with an elemental subtype.
• Half-janni gain the Improved Initiative feat for free.
• Automatic Languages: Common and one elemental language (Aquan, Auran, Ignan, or Terran). Bonus Languages: Any, including the other elemental languages.
• Favored Class: Any. When determining whether a multiclass half-janni takes an experience point penalty, her highest-level class does not count.

Half-Janni Racial Class Levels
Hit Die: d8
Class Skills: The half-janni’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Appraise (Int), Concentration (Con), Craft (any) (Int), Escape Artist (Dex), Listen (Wis), Move Silently (Dex), Ride (Dex), Sense Motive (Wis) and Spot (Wis).
Skill Points at Each Level: 4 + Int modifier.
