Half Ogre Sources?

Large creatures simply do not fit in most medium sized buildings. I DM a large character, and he has to be constantly -2 str due to the reduce spell that needs to be cast on him to function, and greater reach never comes into play that often. The rare times when he's full sized doesn't matter too much, since that's outside combats, which in my game usually cinsists of archery fights anyway.

Just from the brief description in your post it sounds like you might be running a somewhat unusual game. Your PCs never encounter a large creature indoors, which is a bit odd. How do I know this? Because if a large PC can't fit indoors, then a large NPC can't either.

I dunno, I guess I always assume indoor ceiling heights to average at 10 feet. Since large creatures can be less than this, I'd think they'd fit. Of course, no overhead swings, but still...

If I were player given the opportunity to play a half-ogre, my vote would be LA+1. If I were a DM given the chance to DM a half-ogre, my vote would be either LA+2 or LA+1 (plus 2 Giant HD or something). ;)

Take care,

See, that's where I disagree. (not with Diaglo, but with Laslo and Derub.)

I don't think large size is a bonus. I consider it a drawback.

I cannot determine what is in your game that makes it seem overpowered, I'm not there to question your judgement in your campaign. However, in my game, there's problems with being large sized.

Now, if you compare the half ogre to the hobgoblin, yes, there's some serious wonky balance issues there, I admit it. However, the conclusion I have come to is that hobgoblins need an ECL of +0, not to nerf half ogres.

However, that's my own personal opinion.

I'm DM'ing a Half Ogre character, They get a minus to hit and AC while squeezing into a smaller space, and there will be times when he will be at a disadvantage, but not outdoors.

Increased movement due to size, better AC due to thick skin, Bull Rush like nobody's business, Charge attacks(with over 800 lbs, and speed of 40' I think Multiplied for charging, and the archers better be ready with a backup weapon), Cleave, ability to take more damage, from Hit Points. My mistake was using the Dragon Mag version, which says to use the bonuses of the base race, stacked, and this guy has a huge strength, as he is Half-Ogre, and Half Orc. So the Strength bonuses from the MM, plus the Half-Ogre bonus. I've increased his ECL, and am working on managing encounters for the party.

They are an excellent place for a DM to send Arrows, before he comes crashing into the ranks of the Archers and takes them out. Maybe it's in how the character is played?
