Halfelf variant

Grayhawk

First Post
Even with the 3.5e changes to the halfelf, it still seems a little weak compared to most of the other races.

So here's my idea for a fix:

Halvelves get the abilities listed in PH with the following changes and adjustments:

+2 to Diplomacy and Gather Information.

(This ability from 3.5e doesn't add a lot of power, but instead of just loading up the halfelf with elf or human traits this gives them a little bit of unique flavor.)

No longer immune to Sleep.

(Only elves don't sleep, and are thus immune.)

Favored Class: 'Truly Any', meaning that a halfelf can disregard any one class when determining whether or not he suffers a XP penalty. Now not necessarily the class with the highest level.

(I considered putting Bard as favored class, but think this better pays homage to earlier editions, where the halfelf was the master of multiclassing.)

At first level a halfelf gets to choose between being profecient with one of the elven weapons, either longsword, rapier, longbow* or shortbow*, or gaining a Skill Focus feat.

*Special: IMC the composite versions of bows use the same profeciency as the normal ones.

(This way a halfelf will get a little extra from either his elf or human part, without excactly copying a human or elf trait.)

IMC I may reduce the choise of Skill Focus feat to either a Craft, Knowledge or Profession skill, to avoid a halfelf with the Alertness feat and Skill Focus(Spot), who otherwise at 1st level could have a spot modifier of +10.

Also, allowing halfelves a choise between a Weapon Profeciency or a Skill Focus feat helps them be diverse, as I feel they should be.
