D&D 5E (+) Halfling Appreciation and Development Thread

Perhaps Halfling “guest workers” in elven territories discovered the sap from certain trees was edible because elves simply didn’t think of it- they already had honey, after all. By the time elves figured it out, Halflings had an ironclad monopoly.

Funnily enough, but, I've never associated maple trees with elves. Oaks, aspen, various other hardwoods, but, never maple. Maybe it's because maple isn't indigenous to England.

Yeah probably similar reason a lot of D&D world's don't have potatoes.

I have gone out of my way to include crops from the Americas in some games usually coffee or sugar.

Halflings tweaked out on caffeine......

Would love to see this. Please do it, even if just sharing here.

There needs to be a soft boost to Stouts, and this might just be it.
(Belated reply)...been doing some worldbuilding...and the thing is to do something that differentiates the subraces a bit - in my world I give stouts swimming proficiency (based off LoTR as smeagol and deagol are swimmers and their village is on the Anduin)..which is in sharp contrast to lightfoots' dislike of water. Big question is....is the addition of proficiency in swimming a big enough bonus to require the subtraction of another for balance...or just leave as is....

it's just swimming at their walking speed? if so i would say you don't need to remove anything.
Stouts are one of the weakest races in the game. They could probably get away with two things at that power level.

Stouts need a bump anyway. I’d just give them swimming.
