Halfling outrider

First Post
I'm thinking of a Halfling Outriderfor a new campaign. It takes place in a city setting and I dont want a pony or dog. I want to use a lizard of some sort. Something like the Banre Lizard-riders from the R.A. salvatore books. Does anyone know of a book that has those lizards?

Also Im looking at going with the short spear and javelin as my main weapons. I'm thinking fighter makes the best class until I reach the PRC. Has anyone had any success with the Halfling Outrider in parties? Im thinking my feat progression will be

Mounted Combat
Weapon focus: Shortspear
Mounted Archery
Weapon Specialization: Shortspear

I havent decided on my last feat before I take the PRC.

Any suggestions?

I dont want to do any crazy dipping. I'm not looking to min/max this. Just something solid that will live awhile and can assist our tank in dealing damage.

If you're wanting to play a Halfling Outrider, I would suggest either you or your DM get Weapons of Legacy, and see if he/she will let you have Steadfast. it is the sword of a Halfling Outrider, after all.

There are a lot of really good builds in that thread for a variety of ways to build this guy.

An easy way to go is Ranger 4/Paladin 1/Halfling Outrider

With the devoted tracker feat once you hit level 4 in Halfling Outrider your animal companion will also become your special mount friend. It is not really powerful but it is interesting and helps keep your mount from being killed.

I was hoping to avoid talking Paladin or ranger levels but it seems unavoidable.

No paladin or ranger levels? What about druid?

One of the biggest abilities of the Halfling Outrider class is that levels in it stack with levels in paladin, ranger, and druid for special mounts and animal companions. I think you are going to want to cash in on that somehow so that your mount is tough enough.

Druid 7 can get you in the door, if your dungeon master will let you trade out wild shape for something more appropriate for your character it might work pretty well.

Trade in wildshape for fighter bonus feats like the rogue can trade in sneak attack for fighter bonus feats?

I guess I'd prefer Ranger over Paladin or Druid although I dont want to duel weild or use a bow.
