[Halloween] How many Tick Or Treaters?

We were able to pass out candy for the first time ever. Ususally I or my wife or the both of us had to work, which only left one of us to take our kids out (using vacation time on a few occassions) and no one at home to pass out candy.

I didn't count how many children came through, but I guestimate we had betwwen 250 to 300 pieces of candy which we ran out of around a 1/2 hour prior to the ending of the alloted time.

Roughly 30% to 40% of the kids I could've passed out candy to, passed by my block. I live on the neighborhoods main drag, but there's only two houses on the block, so a lot of kids turned down side streets (all on my side) or crossed my street to the block across from me.

My mother counts the number of kids that come by her place (same neighborhood) and she had 405 kids.

From the number of kids I've seen everyone else mentioned coming by, I get the feeling I'm the only one in a suburban residential type neighborhood.

I got 4. We live in an area without a whole bunch of kids.

And I try and make the day of the few we get. I grab 2 or 3 king size Snickers, and give those out to the first group (usually our only group). That always gets a big reaction.

We're definitely suburban residential, but our subdivision is pretty isolated: major road on one side, schoolyard on the other. That said, we definitely had lots of trick-or-treaters come from outside the subdivision.

Maybe about 35 this year. A bit down from last year - but then a lot of families moved out of our subdivision and the new people either don't have children or very young ones.

Probably the 45-70 range. I ended up cooking during the peak hours so I didn't get to see all of them. But I've only been hoping to give out candy at all for 5 years now, so I was so happy! This is my first Halloween in our new house, so me and my housemates were able to give out candy.

I was saddened by the number of middle school aged kids with no costumes carrying pillowcases. Or just kids in general without costumes. There were two babies, but at least they had costumes. And they were fascinated when I put a piece of candy corn in their hands. We are rather poor, so we ended up giving out a lot of old Easter candy, hoping no one would notice. >_<

We went through 5 large bags of candy (tons of kids). That was after taking my son out for an hour or so.

Good times…

What are the parents of children under the age of one, doing collecting candy for them?
Actually, I usually give a parent with a kid they're having to carry or push in a stroller an extra helping - one for them, one for the kid. And I offer parents who dress in costume to go around with their kids the same candy as the kids - I think that's cool. And, of course, anyone dressed as a Witch gets a heaping handful of candy at my door. :)

That said, I'd have been pretty irritated with that guy that didn't even show the kid, too.

I also get a little irritated with the kids who don't bother to dress up - but, I figure, hey, they're just kids. Maybe their parents didn't bother to help them with time or materials, so they get candy anyway. But the good costumes get more.

I didn't keep up with how many last night, I just know we gave out $30 worth of candy, $6 worth of jerky, and $3 worth of granola snacks (the kids could usually pick two items themselves from the cauldron, so no, I didn't force the granola or jerky - some of them actually wanted them. :D )

We took our daughter to our in-laws to trick-or-treat there, so we were gone during the peak hours.

But even so, it was still a big ol' zero again this year - same as last year, and the year before that...

I got really good candy this year.

Eh? Oh, you're talking about trick or treaters coming to your house, and not the other way around? Sorry, my bad.
