Handle Animal Skill

Ok Here is my first question with this. If I was able to make a Dragon or other Magical beast 's INT 2 with a Magic collar of Stupid or something,
Rule set has what you need already, and removing it is harder than a magic item which can be shut off, sundered or "disarmed". But it drops int to 1, making training for combat riding not an option since "If the package includes more than three tricks, the animal must have an Intelligence score of 2." Still, "Fighting (DC 20): An animal trained to engage in combat knows the tricks attack, down, and stay. Training an animal for fighting takes three weeks." is still an option for training a feebleminded "pet".

Feeblemind

Enchantment (Compulsion) [Mind-Affecting]
Level: Sor/Wiz 5
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Target: One creature
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Will negates; see text
Spell Resistance: Yes

If the target creature fails a Will saving throw, its Intelligence and Charisma scores each drop to 1. The affected creature is unable to use Intelligence- or Charisma-based skills, cast spells, understand language, or communicate coherently. Still, it knows who its friends are and can follow them and even protect them. The subject remains in this state until a heal, limited wish, miracle, or wish spell is used to cancel the effect of the feeblemind. A creature that can cast arcane spells, such as a sorcerer or a wizard, takes a -4 penalty on its saving throw.

Material Component

A handful of clay, crystal, glass, or mineral spheres.

From the Handle Animal skill description: "Special: You can use this skill on a creature with an Intelligence score of 1 or 2 that is not an animal, but the DC of any such check increases by 5."

It never hurts to read the rules before asking questions about them. :p

Even if you reduce the Intelligence of the dragon (or the whatever), it still remains a creature of the dragon (or whatever) type or subtype. A reduced Intelligence score doesn't cause the creature to become of the animal type. Handle Animal is still subject to the same restrictions and opportunities it always was, regardless of the subject creature's Intelligence score.

Certain feats and class features enable Handle Animal to work with additional creature types. As others have noted, "You can use this skill on a creature with an Intelligence score of 1 or 2 that is not an animal, but the DC of any such check increases by 5. Such creatures have the same limit on tricks known as animals do." However, the logical implication would be that as soon as whatever effect that imposes the reduced Intelligence ends or is removed, any training from the Handle Animal skill would be lost. Whether that training gets restored should the reduced Intelligence be re-imposed is a GM call.

Clearly, the beard was instrumental in taming the zebras, for the impressed upon the normally untameable animals the badassitude of their owner.

So logicallym in order to raise dragons, one must be a Beardfist Warrior.

Beardfist Warrior Class ability? "Make my day, punk." Ex: Beardfist Warrior can tame any creature, by having his beard give them a Clint Eastwood glare. You gain +5 circumstantial bonus to Handle Animal and Intimidate checks related to animals. All other rules of Handle Animal apply normally.

I think there was a movie committed to this topic...

Like many topics, this seems to be largely dependent on the desired flavor of the campaign. If you decide you want to allow dragons to be trained, go for it. There are a handful of guidelines for establishing DCs, but it is hard to gauge the level of power that would result from having a dragon as a mount.

I was more asking as a player trying to get the most out of this skill. It is a great adventure to track, capture, then transport back to training ground, Train, then sell beast. I used dragons because everyone wants a dragon. I Would like to use this same skill on other magical beast, using a mod spell of Feeblemind to make the int 2 not 1. Handle animal said it work on other creatures but DC is increased by 5. But If you reduce the INT to 2 then you would not have a independent mount & with dragons would not have to give them Gold for their hoard. Would a dragon still have free thought to want a hoard etc. I am working on a list of great beast for this including Giant scorpions. Have not looked them up but the same tactics should work.
