Happy April from Mr. Eliot

fusangite

First Post
April is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
Winter kept us warm, covering
Earth in forgetful snow, feeding
A little life with dried tubers.
Summer surprised us, coming over the Starnbergersee
With a shower of rain; we stopped in the colonnade
And went on in sunlight, into the Hofgarten,
And drank coffee, and talked for an hour.
Bin gar keine Russin, stamm' aus Litauen echt deutsch.
And when we were children, staying at the arch-duke's,
My cousin's, he took me out on a sled,
ANd I was frightened. He said, Marie,
Marie hold on tight. And down we went.
In the mountains, there you feel free.
I read, much of the night, and go south in the winter.

What are the roots that clutch, what branches grow
Out of this stony rubbish? Son of man,
You cannot say or guess, for you know only
A heap of broken images, where the sun beats,
ANd the dead tree gives no shelter, the cricket no relief,
And the dry stone no sound of water. Only
There is a shadow under this red rock,
(Come in under the shadow of this red rock),
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

Happy April from Mr. Cummings.

yes is a pleasant country

yes is a pleasant country:
if's wintry
(my lovely)
let's open the year

both is the very weather
(not either)
my treasure,
when violets appear

love is a deeper season
than reason;
my sweet one
(and april's where we're)

Fusangite, in my professional opinion, you need to get laid.
While this observation may be true nonetheless, I'm surprised that this was your reaction to the poem.

Actually, my friend Philip ran a 2 year RPG campaign based on the Wasteland. It was a three part time-travelling quest for the holy grail.

It's not precisely my reaction to the poem. More of an observation based on the collective angst of many of your posts for (at least) the last couple of months.

In case I haven't made it clear, I like you and I'd like to see you happy (if only for the novelty factor ;)). I figured a little roll in the hay might take the edge off.

My suggestion was crass and base but then again so am I. I won't be offended if you don't take the advice.

Thanks so much; it's always a pleasure to know that people whom I have never met wish good things for me. (I would be happy to take your advice at the earliest opportunity.) I hadn't realized my posts had become darker of late; that darkness doesn't really reflect my current circumstances so I'll be a bit more attentive to my tone here. My life, actually, is really very good.

Well, that's good to hear.

Let me also say that just because that's my perception doesn't mean it is generally true. I'm certainly not saying that I've read every post you've made over the last few months and it could also be that any perceived mood reflected in them was wrong. It just seemed that some of your posts were coming off somewhere between wistful and bitter.

I'm glad to hear that this was only a misunderstanding of your circumstances and I wish you luck in following up on my prescription. Even though it may not be a necessary solution to a non-existant problem, I recommend it nonetheless.
