Hardness

Question said:
Any idea what kind of stats the sails of the ship should have?

I'd say 0 hardness, 4hp/square foot.

So 8 points of damage will destroy 2 square feet of sail

Oh, and it should take full damage from fire but 1/4 damage from electricity.

I'd say even 80 damage from a single arrow destroys one square inch of sail.

Very large objects have separate hit point totals for different sections.

Ranged Weapon Damage: Objects take half damage from ranged weapons (unless the weapon is a siege engine or something similar). Divide the damage dealt by 2 before applying the object’s hardness.

80 damage from a single arrow?!

Is this a sail bane arrow?

Are you sneak attacking the sail?

Is the arrow the size of the ship?

I don't care how they did it, i assume someone can figure out how to get 80 damage out of a medium arrow.

CLOTH: Cloth has 2 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 0. Player’s Handbook, p. 166.

Canvas may have 3 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 9.

Enjoy!

See appendix for more information on other objects and their hardness.

Was that a slip of the keyboard? I'd be astonished if any mundane fabric had a hardness above 3 or 4.

Hi!

???... err... slip of keyboard? If cloth has hardness 2 and no one likes to wear canvas as clothing because it's to hard and stiff, I assume that it should have a bit more hardness than cloth itself. Besides, canvas for sailing ships was chemically treated for hardness, IIRC. So hardness 3 seems to be in order.

Kind regards

Yes. But not hardness 9. :)
