harmonious thunder

I support Nichwee...

also this is once again a terrible nerf to prevent abuses...

i don´t know why any sane person thinks this power should deal infinite damage... at least it should be once per turn so that it has still a worthwhile effect...

Tbh I am saying the wording atm is pointlessly bad. And I would make it one of the following
1) All the current limits AND doesn't trigger itself.
2) Once per turn and doesn't tirgger itself.
3) No limits but doesn't trigger itself.
The first would make it even weaker (as the feedback to the original target wouldn't go off, so your allies have to get each target hit each round)
The second would allow it to be done a lot but not give bonus to multiple attacks in a power.
The thrid would make Rangers smile wickedly, be insanely overpowered and would have a weird interaction with "extra damage" that some items or effects give (these include Hunter's Quarry/Sneak/Curse) as I was told by WotC CS that "extra damage" is a seperate source of damage that doesn't require initial damage* and thus a rogue doing a MBA + Sneak would trigger this effect twice - as he deals MBA damage and Sneak damage to the target seperately.

*BTW I think this is a bad call, as it then raises odd questions with a Frost Dagger and Cold Vulnerabilty. As if Sneak Damage is a seperate damage, but is dealt by the Frost Dagger then the vulnerability kicks in twice, if it isn't dealt by the weapon used it may not be effectted by any effect that weapons give the damage THE WEAPON deals. This could cause odd rules interactions

The PHB3 says:

Yet another case where any interpretation that would result in the targets taking (Strength modifier) thunder damage ad infinitum clearly fails a basic sanity check and must thus be an incorrect interpretation. I really don't understand what goes on in the minds of those RAW-fanatics...
yea that is what it does and sorry i forgot to put the effect up

I know this would probably be a necro post but I would like to know if I got it correctly.
1.) If I target an enemy in melee range and a secondary target out of my melee range, it will still work?
2.) When I hit the 1st target, it will trigger the effect of HT and the second target will be damaged by Thunder damage?
3.) Since it only takes thunder damage per round, I will assume that allies attacking the two affected targets will not trigger the effect of HT for that given round?
4.) And once the round the monk used HT and the enemies' round ends, that is a new round for the PCs, will any damage on either of the target causes both target to take Thunder damage? (Target 1 takes damage, target 2 gets hit by HT's effect which then triggers HT's effect on target 1?)

And once again, sorry for the necro post.

Orrrrr....

Ignore all the proposed wording. None of it is this:

phb3 errata said:
Harmonious Thunder
Page 66: In the Effect entry, replace “When one of
the targets takes damage” with “The first time either
one of the targets takes damage during a turn.” This
update prevents the damage between the two targets
from being recursive.

So..... hi?

Okay, this is how it works.

When you attack the dude on your turn, the other dude will take thunder damage. This only happens once, as the effect only triggers the first time either of them take damage in a turn.

Then, because this effect is once per turn, allies can cause it to happen again on their turns. THEN, when the enemies have their turns, if either target triggers an opportunity attack, that could be another potential hit of HT damage.

Ah, thank you very much for clearing that up.
So the new ruling makes it so that hitting either of the afflicted targets will cause the other to be hit by HT's effect per players/enemies' turn?

Precisely. But that damage can't trigger 'feedback' on the original target. The thing will only deal damage once per turn.
