Has anyone gotten the special edition PHB?

What did you think of it? What goodies are there inside? Anything new or
is it just better paper and better binding?

I haven't seen any reviews of them, and my gamestore keeps the things sealed in plastic wrap.

Are they worth the extra money to you?

Just better paper, binding and a small thank you letter type thing from what I saw.

It is AWEFUL PURTY... but I am aweful broke.

Well its leather bound, it has gilded edges and it has all the errata (at the time of printing) in the text.

Aside from that I think it comes with a little thankyou note and thats about it. Its only really worth it if you want a collectable book, or my personal favorite use, the one book you crack out for your favorite GM just to show how much you dislike the others (I don't do this myself and I take no responsibility for the consequences if you actually do this)

Alternativly you could crank it out only when you GM and use that as an excuse not to hand it across to that one guy who never bothered to buy his own rulebook, despite the fact that he also GMs (using your books).

OH OH OH!!!! it has a little ribbon bookmark attached to the binding.

You can see the differences through the shrink wrap. And it is the corrected 3.5 PHB, same as probably available now at your FLGS. Nothing extra but fancier cover, page edging, and of course the ribbon.
edit: I type too slow.

It's certainly a nice piece to have, but not truly necessary. I believe the hardback PHB is going to be republished this year to include the errata.

I'm a diehard DnD fanboy, so it has been added to my bookshelf to so off my proudness to be a part of the DnD community!

Ooooooh, the ribbon sounds useful...

Agreed. That's what sold me on the old faux leather-covered Encyclopedia Magica series.

Well, that and getting them at 1/3 cost.

The errata is the handy part.

If you can find it at a bargain price - grab it. But not full list - it's not worth *that much* in my opinion.

For some reason, the local Borders was selling it for the same price as the regular PHB. I snatched it up immediately. The shrink wrap was off of it, so either they were selling it at a "damaged" price, which since it is completely undamaged was extremely generous, or someone got confused and labelled it wrong once the shrinkwrap-attached label fell off.

Hope I didn't use up all my luck with that one...

It has already been republished. The "corrected" 3.5 PHB has been around for a couple of months now. Look at the title page under the WotC logo. The corrected book has the line
First Printing: July 2003, Special Edition October 2004
