Has anyone managed to make the monk less oriental?

Iv always hoped that wizards or dragon or someone else who does d-20 would make an alternate monk because my dm wont let us use anything unless its been published.

You could always check out The Players Guide to Monks and Paladins for the Scarred Lands. One of the major things it strives to accomplish is to pull the Orient out of the monk, and vice versa.
