Has Enworld made you better?

EN World has definitely made me a better gamer. While I haven't posted as much as pretty much everyone, I've been regularly reading the forums here since 2002. I have a much better rules understanding thanks to the people in the Rules forum, I've modified my house rules off of that forum, learned how to better craft a narrative from the great Story Hours here, and learned more about gaming itself in general from the general (hah) board.

It also helped me find a new gaming store after the local one closed down, so there's that, too.

I don't know is the honest answer from me. ENWorld has opened my eyes to more ideas and ways of doing things, but I wouldn't say my game has improved or worsened by it.

Shil,

I thought it was the whole "Hey now I can laugh at someone else from behind a computer screen!" ;)

Laugh at someone else and avoid what they do.

Amusement and education rolled up in one. Horace would have been proud.

it has helped me to understand my enemy.

but i had a fairly good idea of that from the tsr board too.

i don't know if it has made me better in the way i game. just different.

Yes.

Negatively impacted the amount of time I spend at work actually doing my job?

Um...[gulp] :heh:
Hear hear! :)

I'll lob my echo in as to all the great advice and ideas this place holds...whether it's made me a better DM or my game a better game won't be known until (and unless) I start a new campaign where I can incorporate (i.e., steal) some of said advice and ideas.

It's also interesting to learn how others view the game, and play it. This is the first and only such forum I've ever really dove into; other than that, my only contact with gamers other than our own crew has been at GenCon once (don't remember much; sleep deprivation) and swapping occasional tales with other locals who mostly seem to play the game much like we do, somewhat different from WotC's research data suggests. :)

I appreciate the thought that goes into the posts (even when I don't agree with 'em) and the general civility here. Kudos to all. :)

To be brutally honest, EnWorld does have a negative influence mixed in with it.

The positives of fair rules interpretation and good gaming practices are mixed with a lot of antagonisms. These antagonisms are pretty diverse: adversarial comments, time wasting and this internet culture.

All that said, it is really my responsibility to control the negatives, which I have learnt to do pretty well. So at the end of the day the positives outweigh the negatives, which is why I bother to post.

(5 cool points if you name the cartoon this came from :) )
Originally from the movie Freaks. Been all over. Simpsons, South Park, Clerks, Johnny Bravo, a song by the Ramones, etc, etc. :D
