Has Google become the new Kleenex?

I'm from Alabama and "coke" is the correct vernacular when refering to soda. It probably has to do with the fact that Coke was started in Georgia.

This is also true in at least one part of Utah. I was so confused when I visited someone there:

Waitress: What would you like to drink?
Former girlfriend: Coke
Waitress: What kind?
Former Girlfriend: 7-Up
Me: ???

And on related note, I heard a story in college about a person who interviewed for a position at Kodak in their optical reproduction department. When he realized he had not brought enough copies of his resume for everyone he asked: "Do you have a Xerox machine I can use?" They say he didn't get the job...

Its like that here in TN too.

Strangely, people I know from Michigan often call soda "pop."

Yeah I've noticed the same thing about Google... in fact I noticed a while back that Googe is also becoming an easier way to direct people aroud the net than giving out an actual web address. I was listening to the radio a few weeks ago. One of the DJs started to give out a long web address when another DJ broke in, interupted him and said "oh God... just go to Google and search for "whatever" and you'll find it."

I've found myself saying the same thing about finding the SRD online. "Just go to Google and search for 'd20 SRD.'"

Its a lot easier to say and do than saying and typing "www.blah-blah-blah-slash-blah-blah-blah.com"

It's a northern thing. In Canada, we call it "pop," too. If you refer to it as "soda," you're branded as a non-Canadian, or even American.

Midwesterners (I live in Iowa) call it "pop" as well. I consider them non-Canadian as well.
