Has there been a Core Race Survivor yet?

Dwarves or humans won last time, IIRC.

Humans.

I made the original post If I remember right.

Survivor threads DON'T give you the Enworld consensus. They allow narrow groups to hijack and warp the results. That's the flaw of the survivor system, it's too gameable. Witness the class survivor/psionic classes war.

I had a mind back in the day to try "Class/Race/Religion Idol" Everyone votes for the splats the want to stay, allowed to vote for as many as they want (picking favorites only is a valid variation) Dropping those with the fewest votes.

It's still cheesy and gameable but slightly better.

IMHO setting books should NOT be excluded, nor should the races in the XPH (Expanded Psionics Handbook), at least not the ones in the SRD.

Some of the coolest new races have come from the Eberron setting (IMHO).

- Warforged
- Changelings
- Shifters
- Kalashtar (spelling?)

I'd happily play in a setting with just those four + Humans.

Indeed. I think they have an implicitly negative spin which makes it a consensus of dislike, not a consensus of like.

I find elves to be one of the most played races after humans. But I guarantee you that they'd be the first race off the island.

I was about to make a comment along the lines of "So you are saying ENworlders can't seperate dislike of flavor from a judgement of mechanics" but then I remembered that is exactly why I posited that setting races be excluded so that time wouldn't be wasted on FR/Eberron haters.

Ah well. I'll just poke at the half races a bit and post something later.

I believe I've said before (probably during my non-core class survivor series) that the Survivor threads should be for entertainment purposes only. They are more entertaining than the "what do you like (ala "American Idol") threads. Those threads pretty much tend to stay the same from beginning to end (with some slight variations).

Which entry wins (or even makes the finals) is illuminating. However, I wouldn't base any gaming decisions on the results.

Thought we had one of those already, didn't we?

Pretty sure we did. I know we had one with non-core classes for sure (either Warlock or Scout won that one, IIRC). I'm almost positive that there was a Core Class Survivor as well.

Yeah, I totally stole Glyfair's non-core class survivor idea when doing the core religion survivor. I think Glyfair deserves all props for coming up with the survivor idea... whether or not that's a good thing is a matter of opinion, of course. ;)

Frankly I'd like to see more "XXX Idol" threads than "XXX Survivor" threads. Vote your favorite, one with least votes gets off'd.

This wildly changes the voting dynamic and makes strategic voting different, if not harder.
