Haste and metamagic casting time

Pfffft

Now I am starting to see the light! :D

You mean there is a difference between:
A - casting a spell that takes 1 round and you are thus casting until the beginning of your next round;
B - you are casting the spell with a metamagic feat and a 1 action becomes a 1 full round action? And so is not a 1 round spell and just takes effect but the caster cannot walk (in effect, applying the metamagic feat takes the place of the move (equivalent?) action you'd normally be allowed).

But, continuing this last thought, a sorcerer could never, ever cast a metamagic spell when he has just one partial action (surprise, or slowed). Roger that.

Well, this at least solves the question of a hastened sorcerer casting a metamagic'ed spell, he's just have another partial action (in which he could cast another, not metamagic'ed spell or do whateve he damn well pleases).

BUT.... what about a hastened sorcerer (or priest, or wizz, or whatever kind of spellcaster) doing a 1 round spell? What to do with the partial action? Cast another spell? I think not, but then what? Move? Drink a potion (while incantating? silly).

Regards

Exactly!

Partially true. He might be able to do it over two rounds; see the "Start Full Round Action" partial action.

Some DMs do not allow this to work, however. That action description states that you can start a "miscellaneous full-round action," and it's not entirely clear whether that includes a spontaneous metamagic spell. I haven't seen an official ruling about this, so it could go either way.

What do you mean by a "better effective duration"? A 6th level sorcerer casting haste has the same duration as a 6th level wizard. They both get an extra 6 partial actions from the casting of the spell.

My bad for not wording what I meant more clearly. Yes, the actual duration will be the same for an equal level sorc or wiz. By effective duration, I meant the number of spells available to the wizzie or sorc. The Sorc can continue hurling spells for the entire six rounds duration, while the wizzie can only manage four. Hence my use of the term "effective duration".
