Haste Question

But Exp. Retreat does increase the land speed by 30 ft. even if wearing Heavy Armor or if the base land speed of the recipient is lower than 30 ft., right?

Yes, but on the other hand it doesn't make you swim, fly or burrow faster, which haste can help with... so haste will still be better in some circumstances.

11 replies and nobody has asked the OBVIOUS question, "is it a European or African paladin?"

DO I HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING AROUND HERE??/

Your normal speed in that armor would be 30'. The boost from Divine Vigor makes you 40' temporarily, but that's not your "normal speed."

I looked up Divine Vigor in Complete Warrior last night. I was wrong. :D

Divine Vigor does, indeed, increase your base speed by 10'. So, in jdvn1's example:

- Human (base speed 30')
- Wearing medium armor (base speed drops 10' to 20')
- He's a barbarian (base speed increases 10', back up to 30')
- He uses Divine Vigor (base speed increases 10', up to 40')
- Haste increases speed by 30', up to 70'. Haste fully affects him, because the increase of 30' doesn't do more than double his base speed (which is 40' during the duration of the Divine Vigor)

Wow, I didn't even bother to check you on that. :uhoh:

Coolness. It'd still be 80 in light armor, though.

Yes, it would be.

Which, of course, brings up the pure cheese combo of a human Barbarian 1 / Cleric 1 / Monk 18 (obviously, with that alignment change in there), with the Divine Vigor and Run feats, and a Haste potion.

- Base speed 30'
- Fast movement (barbarian) +10'
- Unarmored speed bonus (monk) +60'
- +10' to base speed from Divine Vigor
- +30' from Haste

That gives you a move of 140'. With the Run feat, you can cover 700' (that's almost than 2 full football fields, including end zones) in 6 seconds. It's 79.5 miles per hour! You'd be able to lap Steve Austin (the Six Million Dollar Man, not the wrestler :D ).

Unfortunately monk version of fast movement is an enhancement bonus, so doesn't stack with haste. :(
Now I need to make a difficult choice between uncanny dodge and divine vigor...

Ah, missed that. Good catch.

So, ditch the Haste potion, and his move is still 110', running at 550' per round. A much-less-broken 63 mph. ;)
