Have you bought any books because they won an ENnie?

The only books that were winners that I don't already own and plan to take a good hard look at are Cthulhu Dark Ages and the print version of Sidewinder: Recoiled when it's released. as for nominees in general, I plan to pick up Poisoncraft and take a second look at Fantastic Fortresses.

One of the discussions regarding the future of the Ennies is centered around whether receiving an award causes an increase in sales. So I ask everyone here, have you purchased a product because it won an Ennie (silver or gold)? If so, which one(s)?

no. i didn't buy them b/c they were Ennie winners. i bought them cuz people i trust said they were good.

ergo.. i bought them before they were ENnie winners.

Everyone seems to trust that Teflon Billy guy.....

Yes - from prior years too

Magical Medieval...
Mutants and MasterMinds
Sidewinder
Grim Tales
Freeport

and some other stuff

I look for the material after the awards at GENCON on Saturday and Sunday.

Well I haven't bought that many books....

But consider it this way, I also buy and play boardgames.

I notice that a lot of my favorite games won Origins or Games100 (or whatever its called). Roborally, Settlers of Catan, Puerto Rico, etc.

I don't specifically seek out the winners of these awards. But when I'm looking for something in topic X, of two choices, I'll probably pick the one that won an award.

I think that applies to the Ennies. Given 2 choices in a topic I'm interested in (say books on sailing for D&D), I'd pick the one that won an Ennie. Because it's effectively been reviewed by several people and they found it to be good. If no book on sailing won an Ennie, then I'd be left to my own devices to figure out which one I like.

I think that may be the mentality of many buyers.

I doubt too many people, even on EN World, have bought books solely because they won an Ennie, sight unseen. But it definitely is a contributing factor, at least for me. I view the Ennies as a strong mark of quality, and at the very least it can tip the scales when deciding between two competing products.

Personally, I buy very few books, but I did wind up buying some of last year's winners for GM day, including MMS:WE. I have also recommended various Ennie winners to other people that I thought would be interested in a specific topic.

If I had some more time and money to spend on buying RPG books, here's a few I would *definitely* get: Midnight, M&M, Redhurst, Roleplaying Tips Encyclopedia. Some of these (like Grimm) I had never heard of before the Ennies.
