I have been DM'ed by Piratecat; all others can stand aside. :)

Never played under anyone else, but I did talk with Gary once, and listen to him in a seminar. The way he described his early D&D sessions reminded me EXACTLY of my old group. Everytime he'd mention someone's (such as Rob's) characteristics and behavior, it was like he was describing my group as a fly on the wall. (I also had a player that could sketch entire sections of dungeon from memory; heck, the guy could walk past the DM screen for two seconds, get back to his desk, and sketch everything he saw. :D) It goes to show that most gaming groups have similar elements in them. There's the really good roleplayer; there's the tactician, the artist, the statisistician, etc.

About 10 years ago I was in an individual advancement tourney at Life, The Universe & Everything Con and won one of six seats for a game DMd by Tracy Hickman.

It was a good fun game.

Well I've been DM'ed by Henry. It was like getting secondhand smoke from Piratecat I suppose. All the fun but only about half the rat-bastardliness*. ;)

*No babies were harmed or strapped to any armor during the creation of this post OR during Henry's game that I played in.

Robin Laws - A game of Talislanta playtesting the rules he was (then) writing for WotC, I believe. It was in Toronto, and a few years ago, but I remember it being a fantastic session, and he was an excellent DM. I wish I could have gotten more sessions in with him, but then I got sent to NYC for work.Sidebar - Pick up Talislanta 4th ed. by Shooting Iron games, and Midnight Realms. FANTASTIC setting and system.

I have been DM'ed several times by Dave Arneson. One thing I can say about his style is that he is pretty versatile in response to players going off the track. He has this poker face that won't let you pull answers/clues out of him. He just sits there and smiles at you as you walk off in the wrong direction. It takes you a while before you realized that you read the clues all wrong or just misread the player handouts, etc.

Lots of humor, lots of fun. :)

Back in 97, in a small Con outside of Toronto, Kiight March I beelive it was called, I had the pelasure of having Ed Greenwood as a GM for one game. He was pretty good too. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I played with a different group, one player was rather overbearing to put it mildly. But Mr. Greenwood did try to incorporate all of us. I think I still have all the pre genede characters he made up for that game somewhere.

Yep, went to GenCon Indy this year, sat down next to the DM at my very first
game and looked at his tag...Sean "f-in" Reynolds! Excellent DM - kept the
game at a great pace, great balance of humor and conflict/tension, knew the
rules ("duh!") off the top of his head so the game never slowed down. Only
problem was that the game had to end after 4 hours!

Before the game, I turned to a friend of mine and said "Cr*p, I have a True
Dungeon adventure 3/4ths through the game. Would hate to lose the $20...maybe
I'll leave early." Best $20 I ever lost!

Afterwards at our hotel, my friend said "Great DM - he should write stuff."
"Write stuff?!?!?" I said, "Dude, that was Sean "f-in" Reynolds!"
"Who?"
I pulled out a bunch of books out of my luggage --- "Look!!!!"
"Holy ......."

I played in a Champions demo run by George MacDonald (the guy who designed the game) back in '84 or so.

I GMed for Aaron Allston a couple of times. Does that count?

I'm SO going to put "f-in" between my names on my nametag at the upcoming NC Game Day. You get automatic DM-cred!

I suggest that other popular GM's do the same (special attention to Pirate "f-in" cat and Hen "f-in" ry).
