Have you played with the DDI VT?

Same reason why their are no custom portraits in the new online CB as opposed to being able to use every picture you want with the offline CB

That excuse doesn't hold water when you realise that you can upload and use your own custom pictures for your avatars on the forums and that there is also a picture gallery feature on the forums where you can upload even large images, all hosted on WotC servers.

Well, then the answer, at least as far as the CB is concerned, has to be that WotC is simply incompetent. I haven't tried in a while, but if you PDF print the sheet from the online CB, is it still printed as a picture within the PDF where you can not copy and paste anything?

For the VT the most likely answer would then seem "because if they allow you to do your own tokens and tiles they can not force you to buy their virtual tiles and tokens with micro transactions on top of the (after the VT release increased) DDI fee"

FIFY.

Yeah, still. And they make 15mb files.

I'm in a Maptools game where the DM wants me to send him a PDF of the character every level. When I first had to do it, I told him the PDF was 14mb and he was like, "WTF?" Turns out he and the other players use the CBLoader which spits out 700kb PDF's. So the best I can do is to fire up Acrobat Pro and optimise the file down to about 1.8mb 0.o

This is what I'm guessing they were going to do. Although I'm going to go out on a limb and bet that the VT has been abandoned again.

That's what you risk when making design decisions before thinking through a project... Silverlight in its current version only provides this way of printing. There might be some user stories missing from the tools' specification. :heh:

The forums are moderated. You can post all sorts of offensive things there, but they won't be up for very long.

It's really silly for them to do this. I'm not saying they aren't planning this. I just think it's foolish of them to charge us for DDI and then charge us for pictures when we can go elsewhere for free. If they are smart they will just make it as customizable as possible for free and watch the subscriptions climb.
