HBO's Rome

Is it something you could see yourself watching more than once? Good acting/effects?

I haven't watched all my TV shows on DVD more than once or anything...but then some I've only watched relatively recently. Might be more willing to watch them again in another year. Some, like Firefly and Battlestar Gallactaca, I anticipate seeing more than once.

actually a great show. I didn't like Empire and find most shows set in Rome to be boring

but Rome is actually fun watch

I think so (just my opinion). I feel like there were enough characters and story threads that you could go back and re-watch the series looking for a slightly different angle.

Also, as others have remarked, the series is definitely more graphic and more "street" than a typical movie/television production about the classical era. It took me a couple of episodes just to get to the point where I wasn't transfixed by the aesthetics.

In any event, it's nice to hear that the packaging/production is high quality. While its a shame that its only two seasons, I kinda like that. I would much rather a show be too short leaving me wanting a bit more than have a show overstay its welcome and lose its focus (I'm looking at you Tony Soprano... ;) )

Awesome show, absolutely fabulous. But those darn HBO shows make for expensive boxed sets. It's only 12 eps, fer cryin' out loud.

Other good HBO/Showtime shows: Brotherhood, Deadwood, Sleeper Cell.

Too much sex.

Romans marching down a road... stopped....

Roman soldier walking down a street... stopped.

I mean I know it's HBO but the storyline is moving a little slow for all the sex.

The first disk should be here via Netflix tomorrow. I didn't see any shows when it was one, but after Sopranos, The Wire, and Deadwood, I'm about at the point where I'll get anything that has "HBO" on it. We don't have cable, but HBO DVD releases alone are enough reason to get Netflix.

The sex decreases and the action increases over the season/series. Eventually there's no sex at all and they're hopping forward months at a time.

Sure wasn't in the episode I watched the other day with Cleopatra!

But the months have always skipped ahead.

After Titus kills the husband who was sleeping with his boss's wife, the boss notes that it's been over two months since he's got any action.
